Dr. Dodd has been the highlight of my semester. I'm so sad to hear of her retirement at the end of this semester, but I am so glad that I got the chance to be in her class. She's so helpful and has great critiques to help improve students' professionalism. I had a couple works critiqued by her in class, and they were so helpful to me!

So this class I had to put a lot of work into. Make sure you go to lectures, go to lab for sure and just pay attention. It's not an easy class but Dodd makes it bearable. She is a sweet sunflower and honestly one of the nicest professors I have ever met! SHE IS A GEM!

Dr. Dodd is an amazing resource and mentor. She really does care about the wellbeing of her students. She even helped me through the law school application process two years after I took her class and volunteered to edit my personal statement. Her class is by no means impossible if you show up willing to perform. Overall, exceptional professor.

Very demanding class. You have to take three tests, take quizzes (two of them are for attendance), read the book, read the AP stylebook , ace the labs, do a blog, take pictures, interview people and the list goes on. Be ready for all that. Find a good TA, you'll be working with him or her most of the time.

Dr. Dodd is an absolute sweetheart. The class is easy and you attending lecture isn't always mandatory. Her tests are very specific but if you read the textbook you should be fine. Overall a wonderful woman and professor. She knows her stuff and is more than willing to help.

Dodd is fun, enthusiastic and explains material well, lectures help prepare you for lab. four quizzes and 2 exams. Be careful for grammatical errors and fact errors in lab, 5 pts deducted per error and 50 for fact, labs are 75% of grade. Read the text and not all but most lectures are helpful to attend.

Her office hour are always available if you have any questions. The txtbook is used for tests, and she quizzes you on lectures (u'll know)

Dodd is so enthusiastic sometimes I would be like how can you possibly be that happy, but she is an amazing professor. That's what a good teacher is: passionate. That's Julie Dodd. Always willing to help. She's awesome. Class is easy too, but read the book. You'll lose easy points on the test.

Dr. Dodd is an incredibly enthusiastic and sweet woman who truly cares for her students, but this class is definitely tough! It's a weed-out course for journalism-school majors. You should keep that in mind.

Dodd is one of my favorite professors! She is funny and makes things interesting. Writing and Reporting News and the AP Style book are a must-have, but When Words Collide is not. You do not have to attend class all the time (only for quizes and exams), however attending makes exams that much easier.

Be prepared to learn grammar, AP style, different styles of writing, and various other aspects of journalism, pr and advertising. You definitely learn a lot. If you come into the class with previous experience, it won't be too hard. If you're new to it, it might be a bit difficult, but nothing too bad either.

I really enjoy Dr. Dodd's class. I find it easy, but it may be because I have been involved in newspaper before. She is very willing to listen to students and help, and she encourages participation. She's witty and not boring to listen to

Easy class if you've had previous experience with writing for publication. If you're new to the field, it can be a difficult class, but the more you practice the better you get. Dodd is amazingly kind and helpful, and she is very forgiving if you work hard. I had her a lab instructor and would HIGHLY recommended taking her section.

I absolutely hated the lecture and had to force myself to go on a regular basis. This course is catered to PR and Advertising students. I "had" to buy a book we never used and a $20 CD that was used for one assignment. The lab is fantastic, however.

LOVE HER but the class isn't a breeze. Her lectures are entertaining and she is very approachable and nice. She wants to help everyone succeed and thats what i like. If you plan on taking this class, you will learn grammar and be married to your AP stylebook. Quizzes and tests arent that bad but it will come easy to you if you attend lecture.

Julie is hilarious, and she makes class fun. This is a hard class, so ready yourself accordingly. I got an "A," but I worked for it. Her tests really bring your grade up, so study hard for them. Tests usually cover obscure items just to make sure you read or paid attention in lecture. Lab portion of class is truly what dictates your grade.

Dr. Dodd is extremely amusing. I really liked this class, agree with everyone that lecture is a piece of cake. You should go bc she announces quizzes and it makes studying for tests easier. Lab is not all that bad if you manage time correctly and pay VERY careful attention to writing. Get Madsen if you can for lab, she's the BEST!

She's kinda funny...but in a cheesy way. She's very helpful and makes a good reference. Read the book and take notes in class. The tests have book questions and lecture stuff.

Not a fan of Julie. She's annoying in class because she thinks she's hilarious. She's not. Read the textbook before the announced quizzes and tests and you'll be fine. Go to every class and take notes, she asks obscure questions on the tests. Easy class. The labs are where you need to focus your energy.
