Comment:

I absolutely love Julie. She's really caring and funny, but also has her expectations. If you don't come to class, you won't do well. If you have questions or are struggling, she will sit with you for as long as you need to help you understand the material. If you don't do well on a worksheet, she'll let you redo it for a better grade!

Comment:

Each class consists of a lesson and then tons of practice, so missing even one class will put you far behind. She is very consistent with helping students, but acts a bit condescending when students repeatedly don't do well/don't put enough effort into understanding. There's a lot to be graded on but everything is graded closely, so be careful.

Comment:

Professor Lawson is awesome. I took her for Music 100 and she explains the material well - even those without a musical background can follow it. She happily answers questions and gives hints to help memorize things. She gives prompt feedback on well thought out assignments and quizzes. The environment of her class is supportive and encouraging.

She gives a lot of worksheets but it really helps to learn all the information. She is very sassy and when you don't get something she will spend the time to re teach it which is really nice.

As a music major, this class was very easy. However, if you do not have any musical background, you will struggle greatly in this course, it is not a piece of cake. Julie was very sweet but tough. I had her music 100 class at 8 am and she wakes you right up with her chipper attitude. I look forward to taking classes with her in future semesters. :)

Julie is pretty awesome! I'm interested in piano, but I have no background about it. I decided to take the class, and I got an A for my final grade. The lecture is confusing, but if you extremely pay attention in her lecture. You'll be fine! I took it in Spring 2017, and it's a short term class. She will stay with you if you have any questions.

Julie's pretty wacky, but by far one of the best professors. She's very enthusiastic about music and does everything she can to make it understandable. Don't think it'll be an easy A. Your grad will be based on your understanding of music, and it's not an easy thing to learn. If you understand music then you'll for sure enjoy her class

Julie is a really great professor & makes it super easy to pass her class. She lets you make up assignments for a better grade, and doesn't have textbook requirement. Her class is centered around the piano so if that's something your interested in learning when taking your first music class it is good to know. She's always ready to help you improve

Julie is excellent, she explains music theory very clearly and does everything she can to help. Tests are easy if you show up to class and pay attention. She makes sure you understand the material and will do everything to help. If its easy for you you can finish the quiz in 10 minutes and then go home on quiz days.

She is an awesome teacher. really rambunctious and can be intimidating to the faint-hearted, but its out of her passion for what she does. she makes sure you understand what is going on and explains things several ways so that everyone can get it one way or another. i had her at 8am and her energy will wake you up like an espresso

I used to look at sheet music and be utterly lost. Julie's way of teaching was very easy to understand I immediately started getting everything. She wants you to succeed and she lets you know if she is disappointed( not in a bad way thought). I got A's on every assignment but one and she seemed genuinely sad. I loved her class Just don't miss class

Julie is awesome! As long as you treat her class as important and are on time you should be good. She expects you to understand what she teaches so pay attention and if you really don't get something right away ask her to clarify it and she will be more than happy to help! I learned so much and had a good time doing so!

I honestly dreaded this class. Took it over summer so things went fairly quickly, material was hard to learn (for me at least). Julie was very helpful and she does help you on the tests. She was energetic and kind. I ended up walking away with a C. If you are not good at reading music or are musically inclined stay away!

She is a wonderful teacher. She is very strict about showing up on time though. I loved her class, she is very energetic, and she will do everything she can to ensure you understand what you are doing. She always was more than willing to stay after class to explain things out clearly. She will even help you out on the tests. Take her!
