Comment:
I think she's a sweet professor, and she tries really hard to make her classes interesting and to make sure that her students understand the impact they have, but she is somewhat sporadic. I can't say I learned as much as I would have liked to from her class, but her classes were interesting.. most times.

I love Julie and the hands-on knowledge that she brings to EPGA, but I'm not sure she is up to teaching anymore. She relies heavily on her TA and each class was a little all over the place. Readings were easy, though. We often told her we'd like to hear more about her personal experience in the field, but she didn't share often.

Comment:
Professor Mertus clearly has years of experience, but her classes fall short. Her lectures are convoluted and borderline incomprehensible. She will go off on tangents that do not have anything to do with the topic at hand, and she seems to jump from point to point while leaving out information.

She's really full of herself, and disrespectful of students time. She shows too many movies in class.

Comment:
Although I have had many professors at AU, Professor Mertus is far and away the best. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject, truly cares about student feedback, and makes sure students understand the impact they can have in the world if they use their education wisely. The only complaint I have is that her directions are quite unclear.

Mertus is an awesome professor who really tries to be innovative in her teaching style. She is also really helpful outside the classroom both for class and non-class related things. I learned a lot and the workload was difficult but manageable.

although she has a core group of sycophants, her popularity is based more on style than substance. super-flakey, unorganized and unprofessional. recently answered her phone and had a conversation in the middle of our ethics class. she has suffered the effectsof taking on too many projects, and has little time for students. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE

Julie Mertus is the most amazing professor I've ever had. Really, if you want to take anything away from an SIS education, you have to take a class or two with Mertus. She's brilliant, inspiring, and down to earth. She also truly cares about the education of her students. She's the best.
