Whenever she "ran" with the lecture I found it unclear and outright argumentative. There are very few teachers i have been able to say i DIDNT LIKE at ucsc, and she is one of them. While she claimed she wanted you to think for yourself, she became thoroughly upset when anyone presented a different opinion. I felt like because i thought for myself, my writing was marked down. Everyone seems to love her, and im really not sure why...

Awesome lectures. She pushes you to think for yourself. No spoon feeding. Lots of writing, but it's good because you'll learn to be a better writer.

Professor Tannenbaum's lectures were a real treat. The readings she selected were relevant and engaging, and they didn't even fill a whole reader to boot! I definitly recommend her office hours, as she is very approachable one on one or in a small group.

She's an amazingly brilliant professor with an air of approachability that is rare at the university level. The class is not easy, but hey it's university, it shouldn't be!!! I'm paying for an education, not a diploma...and Julie makes the information stimulating and challenging simultaneously.

The reading is especially interesting-war, abortion and affirmative action. Only 3 papers make up your entire grade. Get a friendly RA, bc Julie doesn't grade papers, and if she does she's a very critical grader. She could ease up on the caffine.

HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! If you've seen Julie run, then you know what I mean. Brilliant to boot! Her seminar was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Take a class while the chance exists; talented teachers have a habit of disappreaing.

Very in-depth, goes over things a lot (perhaps too much), can be REALLY funny at times, expects a lot out of you. Highly recommended if there's a TA in the class to grade your papers.

very clear and easy to understand..she goes over things A LOT, which is good but often boring. She talks a mile a minute. You need to be on your toes. She expects a lot and is the kind of professor that makes you really want to put effort in. highly rec
