From JPN 126-327 - One of the best learning experiences I've ever had. Yes, Ono-sensei is FAR from a walk in the park, but keep this mind: She wouldn't let the workload hail endlessly, challenge your sanity, and push you to your limits if she didn't believe you could do it. Her great expectations reflect confidence in her students, not apathy.

She may seem intimidating, but her real sweetness will show through. Don't think you can slack off because she's sweet, though. She grades fairly and expects you to look over material before you come to class. When you get to intensive, you'll miss her teaching style. :(

shes sweet. NOT hot tho. so much better then hashimoto. she shud be head of the dpt. she is intimidating tho and does this strange thing wen she leans toward u n looks like she might fall. the class is EXTREMELY difficult which can be partially attributed to her so if ur not prepared to dedicate ur life to jap then dont take this class.

She is really nice and helpful. She makes the class fun and enjoys teaching it. There is a lot of work though. She makes sure you learn the material by pounding it into your head. If you are willing to do the work and study, this is a great class.

I think she is one fo the best professors at UMass. She is willing to go the extra mile to help her students. Be prepared however, she expects this extra mile from EVERY student. She does not teach the class like a standard language class. She expects you to learn EVERYTHING. But she teaches everything where it's impossible to forget.

ono sensei is adorable. she has a great teaching style that makes the language easy to learn. if you keep up with the homework then it's really all the practice you're gonna need. the tests aren't bad, and there are enough quizzes so that if you tank one or two you're not in a world of shij.

very strict even with the way you sit.I for once was accused of cheating on my homework when i did not,because of the way i sat in class.other than that,it was an ok class. an easy A class if you studied a bit of japanese previously.Good luck

Though very well versed, Ono Sensei is a bit difficult and expects a lot out of people. She is very expectant for you to know the language nearly as well as she does. Good for intensive courses, but if you're non-intensive, beware.
