Comment:

The online course, or the summer version, is a go at your own pace course where you listen to pieces of music and identify the style that it corresponds to. Easy enough, right? Well, that's what I thought. Some of the stuff sounds pretty similar but if you spend doing some thorough listening you'll probably do better than me. Use good headphones.

I like this guy, he's nice and helpful, although the subject matter wasn't exactly my thing. The exams themselves were not very long and they're multiple choice, BUT I urge you to study. Also, if you have something you wanna talk to him about in private he'd be happy to listen and help. he cares about his students.

Kinda a boring class to me (only class I've ever slept through) but at least he's really passionate about what he's doing. And if you need help he's more than willing to give it. I slept through some lectures, skipped others, and didn't take notes and I still managed to get a B- using only the syllabus and Google the day before test.

Prof Rubin is great. He is very organized and is hella passionate about what he does. He plays the music samples WAY too loud, but he motivated me to attend lectures. The criteria may be dull to many, but just come into it with an open mind. He's motivational, funny, and I always enjoyed his in-class piano examples.

My honest opinion of professor Ruben is that I don't think he's too bad. The class is a little dull and very boring but Ruben is a nice guy if you actually take the time to ask him the questions that you have. I would recommend taking Jazz studies over this class though, just because it is insanely boring.

Just show up and take basic notes on key termscomposers. The hardest part is staying awake during his dry lectures. The first test might be a little difficult because he doesn't explain all that well what it's like, but overall AN EASY A! Also, no textbook!

Took this as an online course over during summer session 2013. Easiest A I've gotten. No textbook, but can use his notes from "lecture" on quizzes. The final is writing about 10 pieces using any vocab learned during the course. The biggest thing is to not push everything off until the last minute.

Awesome Teacher! Very Relaxing class to go to! He is very clear on what you need to know but only tells you in class so you must go. He's Super Good At Piano! I would hire him to play at my wedding. He's a nice guy and very approachable. Wish i could take another class with him!

Justin is a good professor. But the class is so boring if the history of music and composers isn't your thing. As long as you have the notes from class you can do well on the tests. I only studied my notes for about 30 minutes prior to the tests and got A's on all three of them!

Professor is really fun and knowledgeable. Not tremendously boring to listen to and I thought the class itself was very interesting. You basically just copy down the notes and listen to music. Lectures are important but not required. Tests come right out of the notes. Easy A

His outline is super confusing and you have to go to class to understand anything that is going on. I didn't think it was very interesting. The whole class is worth 100points so every point you get wrong on something is a point off your grade. LAME.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS WITH DR. RUBIN! Super easy class, super nice professor. Another great thing... NO TEXTBOOK. All you have to do is go to class and become familiar with composers and their style of music. Only 3 tests (very easy) and a short paper about a concert you have to attend. TONS of extra credit for attending additional concerts.

J Rubes is by far the best teacher ever to teach yes? you will definitely regret not taking his class multiple times. easy A while enjoying the perfect teacher.
