Comment:
Robles wants her students to succeed; do the readings in advance, attend class, and complete the study guides and you'll get an A. The material is engaging, but I especially enjoyed the case studies on Days of the Dead and Chicano Park. Robles ensure to make herself available. Although slightly tangential, I would still recommend this her.

Do assigned readings before class, participate, use the study guides she hands out and you will do well. I liked that she broke up the lectures with different things such as using the white board, documentaries, powerpoint, slides. She is easy to follow and assignments are clear. The case studies are cool and I really connected to them a lot.

I really loved the class AND Professor Robles. Whether you are an anthro major or not, you will learn a lot in this class. She keeps it interesting and encourages class participation. I did not feel intimidated to ask questions and give input like I have in other classes. She keeps the classroom friendly and respectful and students like her.

no power points, she reads her notes to the class, jots a few things on the white board. exams are fairly easy, she gives you a study guide. and pop quizzes. i did really horrible on the first exam because i missed a day (my fault). and did horrible on ALL the pop quizzes. but thankfully studied for the final and other exams and received a B.

Dr. Robles is a wonderful professor. She cares very much about her students success in her class and in their college careers. She assigns reading from the books and ties it into an engaging class lecture. The test material is directly from her study guides and she highlights in class the details she is looking for on the test. Great class!

You will most definitely not get by if you don't try. Reading and studying is required for tests and quizzes - the study guide for the exams is almost exactly like the given exam. She really wants you to pass and wants you to talk to her and ask questions. Sometimes she goes through areas quickly while other areas she lingers with stories. spring13

I thought the class was great. She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching. The tests require essay answers, but she gives really awesome study guides and explains the process. She encourages class participation and and was very fair in grading and making useful comments on the exams.

Horrible!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!! Lectures straight out of the book.. Boring movies EVERY class.. ALWAYS late.. (blames no parking) Changed our class start time without asking class, just took it upon herself to do it.. Did not hand out evaluations, she conveniently "forgot" them... I do not understand how this woman is teaching still.

OMG! She is the worst teacher I've ever had. I agree! all she do is talk about her life, friends, and CHICANO PARK!!!! AND she is so picky on the exams! SHE is the worst grader! IF you want to suffer all the semester just take her!!! I regret that I took her for my class. You won't get the materials! her way of teaching is so unprofessional!

This class is super easy, there are about 4 exams. However, this is a cultural anthropology class and all she teaches you is mexican culture...that's it! I took this class hoping to learn about lots of cultures. I wanted to learn about more than 1 culture, especially one that I know a ton about already! This should be a chicano studies course.

Professor Robles has experience and she knows what she's talking about. She does like to talk about her own experiences, you'll see she is an interesting person if you don't look at this negatively. I would definitely recommend taking a class with this professor. Just show her the respect she deserves and you will receive the same in return.

OMG!!! She is terrible!! Stay away unless you like to hear her talk about herself. I read some of her ratings and I think she wrote all the positive ones. Anyone who has ever taken her class will tell you that all she talks about is herself and the chicano park--she did it 10 years ago! She is the worst teacher I've ever had.

Awesome class to take. She offers honors contracts, this prof. allows a student to voice his or her beliefs freely. Class participation is a plus for a high grade, she offers study guides before exams. Keep in mind emphasis is placed on fieldwork done about chicano culture and chicano park. You also get to learn how to do a genealogy chart.

Very nice teacher, just don't text in class! She reamed a girl for it. No homework, a couple of tests and a couple of quizzes. Yes, she talks a lot about Chicano Park BUT DUUUUUHHHHH, she plays a large part in the community. Same thing goes for Dia De Los Muertos. Roll with it. The test covering both is super easy; much better than a chapter test.

Oh my God!!! She is so boring. She knows nothing about anthropology and all she talks about is chicano park. She is crazy!! no really crazy!! She is always late and thinks that she is in her 20's. She is about 50 years old. I think she is a grandma. Find another teacher!

I thought this professor was great. We generally followed the textbook, but she also added a lot of interesting stuff from her research. I have found a lot of what I learned useful in many areas of my life. She has a dry sense of humor and likes to involve the class in discussion, and allow students to voice their opinions.

One could write many excellent papers on her personal life. Does not follow own schedule, does not explain anything well, does not take constructive criticism at all. Explanations are often taken word for word from book or a video. Very slow grading. Has a cool outside personality, but I can't recommend her if you can avoid it.

Two thumbs up! I feel Professor Robles graded very fairly and the exams covered material that was assigned and lectured on... no out of the blue surprises like in some classes. She definitely is passionate about what she does and is an inspiration to students. Good lectures and enjoyed her fieldwork slides on Days of the Dead.
