Comment:

Boren's class was entirely different than I had originally anticipated. In fact, it was so much better. You will gain so much from her course and her passion for writing translates into that of her student's attitudes toward it. I left her class so much more confident in my capabilities as a writer and highly recommend taking her.

If you want a teacher who will pat you on the back, tell you you're special & you're the greatest writer ever, Dr. Boren isn't for you. If you're ready for your work to be critiqued in order to help you become a better writer, she's for you. If you can't handle criticism, keep writing little stories for your mom. I'm sure she thinks they're great

Professor Boren is a generally good teacher, though she can sometimes seem kind of pompous. Most feedback on assignments is from the other students in the class during workshops, and not actually from her.

By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Took her Senior Seminar class thinking it would be exciting; was I ever wrong. I was told by a good friend NOT to take her class, but it fit into my schedule. AVOID her class at all costs. You won't learn anything, and you'll leave wondering where you went wrong choosing English as your major.

Perhaps the worst prof I've ever had. Her attitude is always snooty and never seems to smile. If you want a prof that prompts you to write "point of view" pieces then attacks you if she is offended by them then Karen Boren is a perfect choice for you.

I have never learned more about writing from anyone than I did from Prof.Boren. She's a brilliant writer, and a brilliant professor. Her criticism is constructive and always helpful, and the workshops she facilitates are extremely beneficial. She was incredibly helpful outside of class as well. She definitely helped me become a better writer.

Boren could not be a more appropriate name for this unbelievably boring, uncreative woman. She does not permit/understand originality/humor and chooses the dullest prompts to work from and texts to read in class. She also dresses inappropriately, both as a professor and for her age. Coming to this class makes me depressed. Avoid her at all costs.

Karen Boren is the most pretentious woman I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Sitting in her class is a chore. No matter how well you write, she will tear your work apart, in a condescending manner. She picks favorites and is rude to everyone else. The absolute worst class I have ever taken.

Dr. Boren can be nice when she wants to be, often she is a bit harsh. Her grading is somewhat difficult to deal with, but she tries to be fair. Attendance is a MUST. Not very clear with explaining things or expectations on essays.

Really did not enjoy this class. Half of the semester you read from the book and do a writing prompt from it which are difficult even though she chooses them. Difficult grader! 2nd half of the semester is workshops on everyone's long essay. She's not very helpful, she wants certain things and is offensive on some of her grading. would not recommend

for a creative writing course, she doesn't allow much creativity. picks apart work in an offensive way, causing the student to feel like giving up. maybe she knows her stuff but she should allow students to be a bit more creative and not regard their work as garbage.

I took the senior seminar with her, and it was reading intensive, but not difficult. She encouraged class participation and tried to ensure that everyone understood the required reading. On a couple occasions, she let us out early. I recommend taking a course with her for any English major, you will not regret it!

She truly cares about the authors she teaches on and tries to make class interesting. She does not take attendance. Be sure to read the books -- you will need to use them later! I would encourage anyone to take the English seminar with her -- she is so nice and intelligent.

Very boring teacher but she knows her stuff. Going to class is mandatory - you can only miss 3, so use them wisely! Very helpful though if you want extra help or need some clarity on an assignment. DO THE READING. you can't escape it. All you do in class is talk about what you were suppossed to read for homework.

She knows what she is teaching, but she is way too harsh on her students. And her attendance policy is very strict and unless your dying you are not excused. Literally. And being 15 minutes late or leaving early are counted as a whole missed class. Several people in my class changed their major from English because of her.
