Comment:

This class is intense kleinfelder is a great professor she really knows her material. The midterm was something like 30 different artist and we need to memorize 150 different paintings. No multiple choice its all essay questions. This is a very difficult class and I finished the course with a final grade of a C.

Comment:

The best AH professor I've ever had. I looked forward to going to class, and found myself telling my friends about stories she told. PROS: entertaining speaker, focuses on concepts>memorization of dates, CONS: big exams and large paper can be stressful if you don't come every class, so come!

She is fun and likable. I enjoyed listening to her lectures and she tries to make them fun. But exams are too rushed. All essay questions with some of the questions only allowing 3 minutes to answer. Then she subtracts points and states that you should have expanded on the idea... 3 minutes... If you are a fast writer, this would be a good class.

A nice lady. However, lectures are disorganized, and she goes off on a lot of random tangents. Grades hard but fair. WOULD NOT recommend her if you like professors that are well-prepared, structured, and organized. WOULD recommend her if you're interested in modern/contemporary art because she's very knowledgeable.

Really knows her stuff and how to keep the attention of the class. Prepare yourself for lots of sexual innuendo humor and take notes as fast as you can because she talks fast and gives you more than any book ever will. Fun. Easy to get a B... hard to get an A. Best Art History teacher at any school I have attended. Highly recommended.

enthusiastic professor with lots of spunk and passion. great to hear the lectures but she does throw a curve ball on both the midterm and final that aren't included in her study guide. one 6 page persuasive art analysis paper but easy to do if you start early. i recommend her class but take time to study weekly. kleinfelder - you are loved.

I've taken my fair share of Art History classes and I can tell you Karen is the best Art History professor at CSULB. She puts effort into entertaining the class, is easy to understand and makes sure you know the material through review sessions. You should get a B without too much effort...try a little harder for an A. Never used the textbook!!!

Knows the material very well, although not really a sophisticated or modern read on art. Excellent lecturer, but sometimes panders a bit, going over the top trying to be funny or be liked. There is an epic air about her classes, but honestly not that hard--show up for the review sessions and take decent notes and you will at least get a B, no sweat

she genuinely wants her students to learn. she explains things differently than other profs, bc she puts things in different terms to get us to understand and relate to the material more. she goes overboard though sometimes, trying to sound cool or be funny, making sex jokes that make everyone uncomfortable. attendance not req, class runs long.

Ummm...Not sure why everybody praises her. She is only a good teacher because she pushes you to learn what she wants you to learn. Her lectures are nothing but over the top performances. She stretches facts and is egotisticall. Wished she would stop repeating herself and move on with lectures so we could actually finish a class.

Rather than laud her charisma or deride inaccessibility, let's consider the classes. Took her on grad level: yes, charismatic woman, great speaker. But her class is just an overblown survey. In fact, it is just standard Art History and context is probed only superficially. She is probably good for undergrad art majors, but otherwise a bit weak.

She is the best teacher! She is so motivational and inspirational and can have you loving and understanding a trash can if she wanted you to. Her enthusiasm and language envelop you in the time period and context that the art was created. So why were people trying to email her so much? Quit trying to hold her hand and just enjoy the class!

by far the most amazing teacher ive ever had. such an insiration and a dedicated teacher of art. art history is supposed to be interesting and she does everything in her power to prove to everyone that it is. extremely intelligent and charismatic. a joy to go to her lecture. always something new to learn. by far the best professor ive ever had!

Great lecturer, very charismatic. The material is also survey style, and sometimes can be superficial. But the problem with her is that she doesn't follow through: no attention to students outside class, I sent 6 emails, never got a single response (others say the same)--just just showing up to talk, no matter how well, is only doing half the job.
