Overall decent teacher, but the way Lynchburg College has set up the INTRO Bio courses makes the class unnecessarily more difficult. Daily quizzes DO NOT prepare students for the outside world that revolves around tests. I advise taking bio courses elsewhere...

Benson truly cares about the field of biology and she just asks that you give it the same respect she does. if you are truly interested in Biology, she has a lot to teach you

Everything about this class left me reeling. Tests were mostly shortlong answer. The overnight field trip on a weekend was pretty inconvenient. Some of the statistical concepts were a little in depth for a "general" ecology course. Stories about cool animals were nice, but took up half the class period and didn't support my understanding.

The way her class is set up is not conducive for students. Having a made up quiz which could completely be anything, every day, does not show that the student understands the material just from answering three or four questions right. She is a good professor and very passionate about what she does but the class do without the tricky words on quizes

She's a great professor who is always willing to help. She does expect a lot out of students, but it's her job to help us learn things on our own. She does a very good job of expressing her expectations and then expecting people to do their own work to live up to those expectations. I've loved every class that I have taken with her.
