I took his course online and it was easy and straight forward, but when I started to need help or was having technical issues he would NOT respond to my emails. He also said late work would be accepted until LDOC for 80% but wouldn't open any assignments back up. Seems very unorganized and I'm glad I don't need another class with him.

Dr. Ricanek is a really smart guy, but I feel like that's part of the problem, he should be teaching graduates or people who know what they're doing. 200-level is way to basic for him. Youtube & the book will be your best friends for this class.

This was an intro to csc class. If i would have taken this my first semester I would have changed my degree to csc. The teacher was involved with class and had great presenters come in and speak about csc. TAKE him if you can, my favorite course in possible my entire college career.

He didnt come to class a lot and would leave us with his TA who didnt care. His tests come STRAIGHT from the review at the book, so study those and you'll be fine. No need to pay attention in class as long as you do the reviews, you'll be fine.

For those who are complaining about how Dr Ricanek teaches, I think it's because you shouldn't be in computer science. Assembly language is a lot harder to learn when you're not using a IDE that checks your code as you write. I'm glad these whiners weren't the ones trying to develop computers back in the 60s and 70s, because we'd still be using an abacus. Dr. Ricanek may not tell you every answer to the homework, but he can give clear explanations. Don't piss him off either, the dude's bigger than arnold.

Tends to ramble past classtime and thinks when he cant finish in time, because he made too many corny jokes, we should stay an extra 10 minutes. Screwed us on the final by including almost all the answers and then decided to place the majority of our course grade on like 7 multiple choice questions

I think he knows about the stuff he teaches.. he just can't teach. Tests are easy though, pretty much the test review in a different order- be careful though, one time he switched up the answers and everybody did bad.. other than that-EXTREMELY easy.
