I'm good at chemistry...A's through out highschool Chem. Here's Dr. Seff's problem. He's sort of a burnt out guy who has little "drive" to come down to students' levels of knowlege in order to explain a concept. Also, he always has about 1-3 questions on each exam that he's never talked about. And I put in about 20hrs/wk on this class.

Unlike most people, I've gotten an A and am getting an A barely this time around. He's a horrible teacher for 2 reasons: the difficulty of the exams do not match how he teaches. He's just burnt out and has very little desire to explain things well enough in conceptual ways so students understand him. Asking him questions is a waste of time.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!!!I took Bopp for 161, which was a great experience. If you study hard you get what you want. Grades are depend on how you try. But Seff is TERRIBLE...His notes=not helpfull, review guides=not helpfull, tests=SUPER HARD!!! can u believe the class average of 44 on exam?! Im telling you, dont take it!!!!!!

TERRIBLE..that was probably the worst experience ever. In one of my classes we actually got to "interview a professor" and of course we chose him and he said that he "likes when the average is 60%...it leaves room for improvement for those who want to." Ok thats where he went wrong! But if you want a challenge...you got it!

I'm sure the professors a good guy at heart, but his tests are ridiculously difficult, the class average for tests in my class was a F, which usually means the curve will be low and you'll pass, but still this class by far has been the hardest i have ever taken in my life. I honestly would not recommend this class at all, unless your a chem freak.

Seff's lectures do not match with his tests and the sample exams he hands out are just a waste of time. If you want a really hard challenge take him because you need to learn everything from the book, and i mean everything because he won't tell you what to expect.

As a person he's a good guy. But in class he's a terrible teacher. Examples, more examples, and MORE examples. Sometimes you feel, where the heck did he get THAT?! And his tests are nothing like his practice exams, or last years tests. Bopps class got it easy, so they shouldn't be so snotty about how Chem is easy.

Professor Seff's a good guy, it's just that when you're in his lecture class, you're on your own. It's true that his review sheets are nothing like his exams, so you have to read the chapters, do the problems in the book and use other resources available to you.. otherwise, you're screwed. He's helfpul if you go in for help and he's a pretty funny.

Never take this class with him. His lectures and his practice tests are nothing like the actual test. His curve isn't even fair, he made the average a D. You know its a bad class when he makes the avg a D and a 36 can still be a passing grade. He isn't helpful at all, hes basically like u get it or u dont, i design this class to weed everyone out
