Kate really cares about her students, overall an amazing professor and she runs a discussion style class. My only complaint is that assignments aren't posted on moodle until the day before it's due.

Highly knowledgeable, caring, & capable professor. Kate really loves her students. Phenomenal & enthusiastic lecturer as well. READ THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS - it will make everything easier to keep up with during lectures (book is not even 1 inch wide). Only 3 tests (non-cumulative! ) & a paper so don't take them lightly but she's an easy grader.

One of the best Econ professors at Puget Sound. Lecture is thoroughly engaging and she has a propensity to go off on tangents - enjoy them/incite them strategically. Book used mainly as a resource. Be prepared to perform well on tests/HWs/papers- she tends to only give 3-5 graded test/HWs TOTAL a semester. Loves dogs! Probably more than you. 10/10.

You will never meet anyone is your life who loves economics this much. She really loves what she teaches and cares about her students. However, she doesn't always teach what is on the homework and it will be up to you to read the text and figure it out for yourself. And she isn't always clear about what will be on tests. Not a bad class to take.

Excellent professor and very interactive. The pace of her lectures is determined by the rate in which her students are understanding. She will never move on from a topic that you don't understand. Office hours are very useful as she is there for you and happy to help. Tests aren't easy but if you participate in class daily you wont get below an A-

Kate is a fantastic and high energy professor, her sense of humor takes a couple weeks to get used to. Lectures are fast paced and no-nonsense, she will make sure people dont fall behind, if you do and don't seek help, that's on you. The textbook is more of a supplement to the lectures, any pretense of doing the reading is gone after the first week

Prof. Stirling is a very energetic professor, although the high energy sometimes makes her messages convoluted. She doesn't use the textbook much but instead types up packets explaining the concepts in her own words, making it easier to figure out what she's looking for on tests. She is late to class a lot, and goes off on tangents sometimes.

Extremely hard class to sit through. Didn't learn anything from class at all, and had zero homework assignments. Kate is a very nice lady, but this class was not enjoyable.

Kate's the best. She seems a little weird right off the bat, but she's an amazing prof. You just need to play attention, and take notes. If you do that, she gives you absolutely everything you need to succeed. If you wanna take 170, take it from Kate!

Kate is one of my favorite professors at Puget Sound and her love of Economics is infectious. I am an IPE major and, while taking her class, I considered switching to a straight econ major several times. She is concerned about her students and their grasp of the material. Fantastic class!

Kate has a lot of energy! She can talk a lot during lecture though, so if someone asks a question, some material might not get covered. But she is extremely helpful and considerate of students! Tests didn't seem that bad, but macro theory didn't seem that hard. Not much homework either

kate is very enthusiastic and i appreciate her dedication to the field of economics. if you are not an econ major, however, i would not recommend taking a class from her just because she uses a lot of jargon and is relatively unclear during lecture (coming from a nonecon major).

She's very upbeat and entertaining, and strays off topic 90% of the time. The tests are almost exactly like the study guides she gives out. Textbook reading is unnecessary, because you're tested over lecture materials. Homework is impossible to get an A on but it doesn't count for anything so it doesn't even matter - she barely gives you any.

Really, really great teacher. I don't know about her 300 level classes, but she makes things so easy to understand it's hard to believe sometimes. She's passionate, and incredibly intelligent. Count your blessings if you take a class from this woman.
