Comment:
Parkin is nice and sincere, but take it from a history major who dislikes when politics distorts objectivity. She is INCREDIBLY bias so expect to sit through a class on nothing other than the oppression of women, minorities, and the poor. There's more to the US than that, but not according to her class. If you participate and try, you'll do fine

Dr. Parkin is an AMAZING professor and person. Her class is what is expected of any college level history course. She genuinely wants her students to succeed and learn the material. If anyone gives a bad review, it is because they did not try in her class or didn't take it seriously. I would definitely recommend professor Parkin; she is the best!

She is a very nice person but her class is the most frustrating thing ever. The content she teaches is completely bias to her own beliefs, and she does not follow correct historical fact. She uses outdated books as required reading material and fails to recognize any other thought that is not her own. I would STAY AWAY from this professor!

Very nice but her class is impossible. She lectures about things completely unrelated to what any of the assignments are about. It is impossible to know what she wants on assignments. I'm a history minor and need some of her classes but am moving my schedule around so I don't have her again

She had a very distorted vision of history which I did not like. In my opinion she is very disrespectful of the U.S. Besides that her assignments are okay but boring and there is no midterm or final. With all that said I wouldn't take her.

Very liberal.... If you can get through that she's really nice. There are a bunch of articles to read and 2 books to read as well as a mid term and final. If you take good notes and have CLEAR arguments for the book essays, you'll be fine. She is at the ready to help you if needed. Very smart woman

Dr Parkin is the epitome of a good professor. Her classes require students to think critically and she places a necessary emphasis on proper thesis construction. She is an extremely fair grader. Many students think she is difficult, but it's usually because they're lazy. She assigns 2 papers, 2 reading reflections, and a couple quizzes.

Dr Parkin is one of the sweetest professors I've met. She really does want her class to do well. Whatever you do, make sure you buy all of the books. your grade for this class consists of a huge paper, 6 quizzes and attendance. each quiz is based on one of the books that she requires. Make sure you read them! This class is very interesting as well.

Dr. Parkin is pretty cool. Her lectures were pretty interesting and she definitely knew what she was talking about. The only thing I can say is make sure you read the books and take notes on them, because her quizzes are pretty difficult. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend her.

I liked her a lot. She keeps papers nice and short - only 4 pages. Can be a little boring but she is very nice and is open for discussion. Only bad thing is you have to read from this book that is VERY boring.

Nice lady and knows what she is talking about. I had her for a history of film class so our class mostly consisted of watching awesome movies. Not a bad grader and is really relaxed when it comes to due dates. Fair warning: Do not get her started on gender. You will regret it.

Prof. Parkin is a decent teacher and knows a lot about history, but in Comparative Family History, the only thing she talked about was the feminine aspect.Very tough grader(hardest at MU),had to read 6 books and write a couple long papers and to me it's total bulls*it that this course was a 200,it was the hardest course I've taken at MU in 2 years.

Run as fast as you can in the other direction. Apparently she gets worse as the years go by. Had her for gender studies and it was the worse class I've ever had. Period.

This teacher is the most boring person in the world. She has no personality and just rants on and on and on. There is so many reading/quizzes and a huge paper and 2 tests. I took this class to fulfill a gender studies requirement, but she doesnt talk about gender...just history. SOOOOO boring...don't take her!

She is a very smart prof. and clearly knows what she is talking about, but tries to cram a lot of information in for the time given. She was absent quite a lot & allows you to help make the final, which is always a good thing. A good class if you know your history.

Dr.Parkin is brilliant but a very hard teacher. If you take this class, you must be prepared to read a lot of books as if it were two classes. In the end, you will profit from her vast knowledge and experience and be amazed at what she coerced you to learn as a student. She is a brilliant lady!
