She is the worst teacher I ever have had! She is rude and nasty. Her assignments are unclear. In your papers and in class she will tell you your wrong if your opinion doesn't match hers! She shouldn't be a teacher!!

I cannot begin to describe how much I regret taking a class with Dr. Ashley and I can certainly say I will not take another class with her again unless I have no other option. Anytime you make a comment during class discussion, of which there is a lot, she will NEVER give you any credit for having any insight whatsoever and make you feel like an idiot in front of the class. Unless you say 100% what she wants to hear, you are wrong. It's clear that's she's smart, but she's a pain to have for clas

I have read all material and done well in this course, but regardless, she is terrible in the classroom. Her condescension is stifling, her inability to understand the points we make speaks to a generation gap. She's outdated, only her opinion is significant in class, and I've learned nothing from her, except how NOT to teach fiction.

My first course with Dr. Ashley was ENG 263; after a few weeks in her course I found her insufferable. But eventually I learned what she expected of me, and once I showed I could meet that expectation, and that I was worthy of her respect, we got along wonderfully. She is incredibly smart and will teach you how to argue your thesis well.

Class is boring and spoon-fed. About as compelling as a high school level course, until she grades essays. Expect her to be extremely unclear when outlining her expectations for written assignments, NEVER to respond to emails, and then to give you a ridiculously low grade for work that would have effortlessly earned you an A in any other class.

From reading the posts, I believe the students are in error. She is challenging and tough, but it's only because she wants students to shine and develop in their writing process and essay technique. You get what you put in. If you struggle, ask for a meeting or talk to her after class. Attend & participate. She is knowledgeable and passionate.

She often made rude remarks towards students comments making them not want to talk in front of the class. There was no opinion except of that of her own that was correct. Oftentimes she would say something about an assignment and then change her thoughts about it in the next class. Her handwriting and critique on essays is often hard to read.

She is unbelievably smart and expects a lot from her students. She has minimal respect for her students and can be incredibly condescending in class which is infuriating. She is fair but expects a lot from your writing. Be prepared to find her cited in MOST modern texts on medieval life.

Comment:
The work was tedious, the papers topics weren't challenging, the class sessions were repetitive and boring. Her teaching consists of summarizing exactly what we read outside of class and she doesn't explore the material on a deeper level. She's condescending to students who have different opinions and does most of the talking herself.

Such a difficult person to learn from. She has to have the last say in everything, and can't let the student be correct unless she has the last word. For the amount of work put into this class on average, I could've achieved an A in other classes, instead of a C for this.

SHE DOESN'T LISTEN TO HER STUDENTS. I once brought up a good point and all she said was "That didn't happen in the book." I found the passage and Ashley just said "Oh." SHE IS UNHELPFUL. She gives lengthy speeches about things people already know and looks down on students as if they are poor creatures she has the unfortunate task of attend to.

Means well and isn't a difficult A - but she's cold, awkward, rigidly political in her thinking. A week or so into class you'll get used to this dismissive wince she gives anybody who tries to takes a discussion in an unexpected/at all interesting direction. If the class is diverse, her racial condescension is especially unbearable.

Everyone who's saying discussing stories in groups after reading them has never taken an English class before. That's kind of the point of reading and learning. Prof. Ashley has been nothing but a good teacher, not astounding but by no means horrible. Fairly easy grader, very approachable.

Kathleen Ashley is unfortunately my advisor. I went to her to get my PIN# to sign up for what should be my last semester of school and she wouldnt sign off on my class selections because she said that i could never handle them. so instead, i she made me rearrange my own schedule to suit her. AWFUL. SHE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP HER STUDENTS!!!!!

I missed one class because my Brother-in-law was ambulanced from Northern Maine to Boston Medical. I emailed her to get the homework. When I arrived in class she gave me a lengthy speech about how I can't afford to miss her class. I told her my situation. She looked at me blankly. "You cannot afford to miss my class". She is a cold-hearted woman

I see a lot of negative reviews here. She isn't awful- but her class schedule is repetitive and boring. She doesn't help much with papers either. I re-did a paper 3 times doing EXACTLY what she told me in the comments and then she started bashing the things she liked on the last edit that wasn't changed. Her class is just nothing but a huge hassle
