Kathie is one of my favorite profs at Carleton, she's very blunt which might rub some people the wrong way but really it's just due to her high expectations - she's a tough grader when it comes to writing, but she really does care about how you're doing in the class and is always willing to help if you need it.

Comment:

The class is required for cog sci concentrators and it tends to make or break them. For one test we had literally 1 A and she said this isn't unusual although the rest of us groaned. She grades extremely difficultly and sometimes I felt it a bit tough but fair. She will hold you to a standard much higher than other profs but it's worth it.

Taking her class was HARD. Repeat:HARD. But you end up learning so much in her courses, although you need to do a lot of readings to do well. She demands excellence and will hold you to that standard with an unswavering mindset. Make sure to not take too many other difficult courses at the same time or your GPA will pay the price. Amazing prof.

Kathie is wonderful but tough. She's a great (and hilarious) lecturer, which is good because she assigned us an absurd amount of reading. Her tests weren't too bad if you studied, but she was a harsh paper grader. You'll learn a lot from her.

I loved having Kathy for Intro Psych! I have heard that she has been rude to people I guess but she was always nice to me, mainly I think because I didn't nap in class and actually studied for the tests. She is harder than some professors but I would not say she is unreasonable. If you think she is unreasonable then you are probably just lazy.

Unrealistic expectations define her. It's hard to understand what she expects on the tests and paper. She has been rude to tons of people ? students and professors alike. She is pretty unapproachable, a lot of my classmates were scared to talk to her about their problems with the subject as they did not want get that "oh-you-are-not-so-smart" look.
