This is an easy class. I hardly ever used the book, it was pretty much a waste of money. However, it was so dull, I could hardly pay attention. Near the end of the semester I barely attended and still made an A. Avoid if possible.

I seriously thought I would fail this class. Not his fault though. He's great at discrete, really connected the material to programming. One of the few competent professors I've had.

Not a fun course, but he made it easy to understand. If you have a chance to take him. DO IT. The book sucks so you rely on him for all your information which isn't a bad thing. I wish all CS teachers were like him. Oh and the TAs I don't think they even new the first thing about this course. We taught them most of the time.

Garfield really knows his stuff, Course is a bit dry, Attendance is optional but you will learn if you go to class (all notes are posted online). 2 tests, 1 final, 7 assignments that also make up your semester project. After talking to him he did say he was going to try to get rid of all the common knowledge and get into more of the good stuff

Very good teacher, not difficult, repeats things both days of week so you don't miss anything. Lets you use notes for tests, though of course not computers (all my notes were on my laptop, but just had to print them out). Labs were easy, but didn't use WebCT so a few problems with grading. Highly recommend still!

His class is easy because you are allowed to use notes and books. He doesn't take attendance because it's a big lecture class so as long as you are there to take the midterm and final and do the labs you'll pass. I have no idea if he will change the book but the book we use is not only really old but utterly useless. Use the powerpoints instead.

I can see how people would like this teacher, since the class is easy...but I feel like this class was a total waste of time. The material we learned is so outdated it's crazy, and when you asked him questions, only half the time he would know what you're referring to...You would think a CS teacher would be up-to-date on things.

Very nice class, easy (open book) exams. I did manage to learn a lot, even with the easy exams. Professor is a bit unresponsive, unless you get him right after class. Overall, it was okay, super easy!

Awesome teacher, cool ponytail. The tests were easy, you got to use your notes and book. He also made the class really interesting - and I'm not too into that computer programming stuff. Definitely take his class!

This was the class I learned the most from all semester. He took something I really didn't understand and got me interested. Granted yes the time was tough to get up for but by the first test you get used to it. I looked forward to the next class all semester. He's a good teacher!

My only problem was the time - concentrating on codes at 7:30 am was a bit insane. :) That said, his class is easy (all exams - even the final - are open note and open book) and he genuinely cares about his students learning. Highly recommended if you don't mind the early hours.
