Professor Griffioen's main goals are for his students to understand the material well and get A's. The problem sets he assigns each week are difficult, but definitely doable, and he is always available if you ever need help. Class usually consists of deriving formulas and doing a fun and interesting demo at the end.

If you don't absolutely LOVE physics, don't take this course. Lectures are mainly derivations of formula. Difficult problem sets are due every week, but he is available for help during office hours. I would definitely recommend having a thorough knowledge of calculus for this course. On the other hand, Dr. Griff is a lovely man.

One of my favorite professors. He is fantastic and really makes you love physics. He'll spend the first half of class going over all the math and equations behind a concept and then do something really cool like ride a fire extinguisher powered skateboard out of the room. The homework is really hard but he's always there to help.

I had never taken physics before, and I went in for personal 1 on 1 help more than 15 times during my semester. Really reasonable and willing to take the time to make sure you get the material. Aimed on educating and preparing for future physics, not trying to weed-out or intimidate. Tough, but a good challenge with good resources.

He is a really good teacher. I never took high school physics, so jumping to honors was very tough; however, Mr. Griffioen makes the class interesting and he leaves you able to do physics. You won't necessarily need a textbook, but since I had no physics before, it was a useful guide for me.

Extremely clever, clear, and dedicated. He cares about every student and explores the material in a fun and fascinating way. His exams are creative and his projects are interesting and help you master the material. You're always welcome to stop by his office and he appreciates questions or just having a conversation about physics.

Unbelievable professor. He's the reason I picked the Physics major. Take the Honors just for him, and go to his office hours if you have problems. I'm taking any future class he teaches, no matter what it is. Don't miss taking a class with Griff if you have the chance.

Professor Griffioen is the best teacher I have this semester. He is entirely dedicated to helping students... GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS... HE IS INCREDIBLY SMART AND HELPFUL! He is really invested in physics and wants to make sure every student understands the material. He is a fair grader, answers every question you have, and makes class enjoyable!

If there's any professor in the Physics department who's dedicated to his students, it's this man. Very receptive to questions, speaks English as a first language (DO NOT TAKE THAT FOR GRANTED AT W&M), and overall pleasant and enthusiastic about physics. I do not like physics, but this man made it bearable.

He's a really good guy and loves teaching. Like the guy below me: "His explanations are basic and much better than lecture prof, but sadly there is not enough time to fully cover material. " I'd know a lot more and do better in physics if he was the lecturer because he shows how to do the problems well.

Prof. Griffioen is the Physics dept. chair, so he obviously knows his stuff, and teaches the 101 problem session most likely because he just loves physics and wants to share that with students. His explanations are basic and much better than lecture prof, but sadly there is not enough time to fully cover material. He's funny, engaging, and helpful
