He has a new grading schema: 10 quizzes instead of tests. Focus on the quizzes and you only need a low score on his final. He is really helpful if you go to his office hours. He also makes lectures somewhat entertaining.

Such a great professor, has great lectures and he teaches his material perfectly. The only thing thats letting us down was his exams, theyre tough!

He lectures without powerpoints so it is hard to follow along. He purposely does difficult material for the first test so more people will drop the class. He is unpleasant and rude. He will laugh at kids when they ask questions. He sorta wants to watch you fail. I did fine in the class, but it was an unpleasant experience.

Solid choice for CHEM1, if you go to lectures, actually do all of the homework, and study a bit for tests then you'll be fine. He gives you lots of practice tests and provides a makeup test at the end.

Though his lectures aren't digitized, he does a good job going through what's going to be on the test, and makes it entertaining and relatable to real world things. Do work the old tests he offers online along with studying your lecture notes, and go to office hours for help on them/checking answers.

Hands down one of the best professors in the ENS college. He knows the material he's teaching, and he loves to teach it! Accessible, fair exams, great lectures. Attend class, make sure you know how to do the problems, and you can get an A!

Although he enjoys making tricky tests, he does it to keep you on your toes and make sure you really understand the material, because he genuinely wants you to learn. He explains the history of chemistry and how it relates to the world around you which makes going to lecture something to look forward to rather than groan at. 10/10 would take again.

Engaging lecturer. Talks really fast--had to scribble notes and do my best to keep up, then go home and figure it out later. He flips problems around to be confusing on the tests but you can get great grades by really studying notes and understanding the old tests online! Awesome in office hours. 2 homeworks/week (for full credit). Curves tests.

Symcox's lectures are so fun. He is a witty professor. Great professor to interact with when needing additional help or just to talk chemistry with. Very knowledgable. This class makes you work for your grade, but overall, he is fair and showing up to class isn't mandatory, but it's worth it for your grade. He is passionate for what he teaches.

I cannot express how much I love Symcox. He is basically my hero and I wish I could take all of his classes. His goal for this class is to teach you Chemistry and how it relates "to the world around you" and he does an absolutely phenomenal job. He knows who cares and who doesn't which can make the difference on how willing he is to help you.

I honestly love Professor Symcox. He's hilarious and makes going to lecture worth your time. I missed a solid half of them and still managed to pass the class, but I'd highly recommend going, as it makes the material much easier to follow and gives you context for what it is that you're doing.

It's not an easy class, especially if you're not interested in chem (I'm not). HW is a participation grade. Symcox teaches at a very fast pace so if you need him to explain more GO TO OFFICE HOURS. I was there almost every day but pulled off an A because of it. He wants to help but don't be that person who asks for help the day before the test!

This class is easy if you've taken chemistry before in high school. He throws a lot of hard stuff on tests, so be sure to use his office hours. He makes himself available if necessary, but gets a little frustrated if you still don't understand something.

This class isn't a problem if you: take notes(which means going to class), do the homework (the grade can be the difference between a low A and a high B), and GO OVER THE OLD TEST ONLINE, seriously they have the same format and the same questions. Overall, not a bad class, not a bad teacher.

Awesome professor. Interesting and engaging lectures, despite sometimes moving off-topic. Tests are exactly what he taught in class, plus some more in-depth and critical thinking problems. If you study and work for it, you'll get a good grade. Definitely a nice guy and an extremely good professor.

Pretty good professor but his tests are not easy. He doesn't have trick questions on his tests (like Pursor) but he does choose hard problems. If you are a chemistry major you will be fine. Otherwise, you might be better off taking a different professor.

He is humorous and knowledgble, but his tests are really tricky! Although I review very diligently on the text book and the exersices, i got really low score on his tests. And what make me feel bad is he use slang and some uncommon words things for examples, not caring about those who are not native in his language!

Symcox uses real life examples to really help his students understand. My class was enjoyable and he made it fun. I have heard in the past though, that this is not always the case. Tough exams, but probably one ofthe best Gen Chem profs at TU.
