One of the best professors I've taken at City hands down - always checks on her students progress and always makes an effort to make the class participate and interesting while keeping an open mind during discussions. Can't wait to take her in ENGL216 in the Spring!

Comment:

Kelly is the kind of professor you dream about having. She's so caring, understanding, and funny- and she really cares about her students. As an English major I had a handful of classes with her - she usually requires journal entries, 3-5 essays (some short, some longer), and a midterm, final, and a few quizzes. She's the best!

One of the best professors you could hope to take in humanities at SDCC. Her teaching style is very effective in getting the best out of every student. Take her if you want to brush up on your writing skills. You will have to work for your grade. I doubt you will regret it.

Kelly is a very caring and motivational professor! She required a few books to read and make journal entries about, but nothing too arduous. A few group projects, a presentation, a midterm, and a final. I signed an honors contract with her, and it was a good choice! She's very understanding if anything personal comes up. Don't hesitate to take her!

Kelly is great at breaking down the authors and the readings. In a higher level English class, expect to read a lot, otherwise you won't be able to keep up with class discussions and future papers! There are 3 exams on different literary eras, about 3 papers, and 1 presentation. Show up to class and participate in discussions and you'll be fine!

Took her English 215 Brit Lit.. Lots of reading! Too much reading for a general ed. class. Would only take her again if I was majoring in English. A great professor that has lots of passion for her work. Feminist, fighter, and book worm. I'm not joking about the reading. Expect around 50-100 pages a week. Not worth the effort for a Gen. Ed CLass

I love Kelly! I've taken her for three classes and she is a joy. If you ever need help in class, ask Kelly since she is very helpful and will work on you because she really wants to see you succeed in her class. Highly recommended!

Kelly is such a great professor! She is very understanding and truly tries to connect with her students. Her lectures are interesting! It is up to the student whether or not they want the grade. She will make you read but they are fairly short and easy. She make it clear cut of what she wants.I took her for 2 semesters and would take her again!

Dr. Mayhew is amazing! If you are bummed about English, she'll make you love it. She doesn't give pop quizzes, but what you get out of discussion(fun) relies on how much of the reading you do. Nice, non-judgemental, so you're not afraid to speak in class. She's a clear lecturer, and gives you the info for the tests, which you connect to readings.

Kelly is amazing. She's very understanding. There is a lot of reading but if you go to class and take good notes you'll pass the tests. She's really big on you thinking for yourself and creating your own thesis. Best professor I've had so far. You can easily go to her with anything and she'll try to help you to the best of her ability.

Kelly is awesome and I love her stories and personality. There is a lot of work to do, especially reading, so make sure you stay on top of it. I would also suggest asking questions when you have them because she is more than willing to help and to also KEEP UP WITH THE JOURNALS! They will help you in understanding the material.

Awful teacher. She thought she was open minded and forward thinking, but truly is a feminist with a constricted world view. Good luck disagreeing with her, if you offer a different interpretation of an author's work she will flat out tell you you're wrong. Hands down the worst teacher I've ever had. Easy A though.

She is the best teacher I have had at City. I took the honors core program with Kelly, as well as English 215 and 216 with her, and it was very rewarding. I learnt much from her. She's very sweet and always willing to help you.
