Ken Horii is life, he's an amazing professor and I learned a lot from him. He can go off on an tangent at times, but whatever he discusses is so interesting and knowledgable. You'll learn to love cardboard, and he gives plenty of in class time to work. I worked really hard for an A-, so it can be difficult to impress him at times.

Ken is a great guy. As a teacher, he didn't live up to all of the great reviews for me. As a freshman going into illustration I felt lost and left behind for most of the semester. He seemed to expect me to just get it and didn't offer much help when I didn't. Classmates of mine going into ID liked his class just fine though.

Not an easy class, but you're in good hands. He's helpful, devoted, and a really nice and interesting person to boot. Prepare to know cardboard like no other. He cares about how you think and approach problems and will help you there, so even if you're not going into something 3D or design, you'll have a lot to gain.

Ken is the sweetest, most genuine man alive. He loves to teach and he cares tremendously about his students' development. I was terrified about taking this class since I knew nothing about 3D, but his helpfulness and enthusiasm ended up making this one of my favorite classes. Praise the RISD gods and goddesses if you get Ken!

Ken is known for chair projects, but less known for the invaluable problem-solving skills I learned in his class. He is one of the few RISD professors that I can say taught me something applicable outside of the visual arts. Planning, testing, adapting - his methods will change the way you approach challenges in and out of the studio. Absolute boss

Ken is extremely intelligent as well as interesting; he has insight that is valuable and even if you are not the most 3D person out there (like me) you will benefit from his teaching regardless. Listen to everything he has to say, he is phenomenal at what he does and he will always try to help you and offer guidance.

I was dreading the Industrial Design-based assignments that I heard Ken gave, but I was pleasantly surprised. You only have two or three big projects for the semester, and he gives you time to think and work through your process. An incredible guy in general- challenges you to push your concepts while not shooting down anything you want to do.

Ken is a really thoughtful, intelligent professor. He really wants you to grow by reflecting on your work & process, and by thinking for yourself, so he doesn't always provide a straight answer. He really appreciates your thought process & tries to help you with your design. He feels that the process is equally as valuable as the final product.

Ken cares so much for his students. Very helpful feedback. Class was good, challenging in some aspects. Passionate about the knowledge and experience he's giving you, and really passionate about life...and cardboard. Spent about $200 on it and it's really not fun carrying it up the hill. But a good class. I can do anything in cardboard. Cool.

Ken is an unbiased intellectual. He gives you an assignment and raises important questions. If you listen and begin to ask these important questions of yourself, you will understand your work and yourself on an entirely different level. One of the best.

frustrating, i found it hard to work during class, but if i figured it out i would get into it. the homework isn't bad as long as you stay on top of it. he expects attendance and for you to be awake. he'd send us out to buy coffee if we looked tired. harder for 2D people, perfect for ID majors. cardboard =EXPENSIVE. he talks a lot and is a genius.

Nice man, very hard in my opinion...but I had very little prior exsperience in a class like that. I worked extremley hard on the 2nd project, but the cardboard chair project was only hard for the first 4 weeks out of 6. every class day is a work day so if your good you might not get much homework.

Great class. Ken is my favorite professor at RISD thus far. He is intelligent, passionate, and dedicated to the Foundations program. The class is based on the idea of learning through trial and error, which I found really effective. Before the class I knew nothing about 3D design, now I can build a MODULAR chair out of cardboard!
