First of all, NICEST professor you can ever met, especially when you got to his OH. He really wants to teach students extra materials which is nice. If you don't understand it ask your TA if you need to know it. Easy midterms and final. Really, really helpful discussions. If you had great basic chem knowledge, ex: AP Chem, you should ace this.

Professor Janda is a really nice man. I recommend reading the book, going to discussion, and LARC if you want to understand the material fully. His lectures are only useful if you're familiar with the material, so read the sections before attending lecture, or you'll be confused. His midterms and final are easy/ doable as long as you study.

just read the text and do the suggested problems and you will be fine (understand instead of memorize though!) no the material is pretty straight forward and though he tries to expand on that during lectures. the discussions helped me a lot. midterms were straightforward and a lot like the sample midterms, the final was a little tricky but not hard

Very easy. Read the text and you'll get a 100% in the class. The material is not difficult to comprehend, so study it so you know it, not just memorize, and you'll do fine. didn't go to many lectures, just read and went to discussion and got an A. The midterms are straight-forward, and the final is a little tricky but if you studied it's fine.

Good teacher, just explains problems in a complex way. midterms are slightly difficult and final is not bad. he expects everyone to know a certain amount of material b4 hand which may throw you off. He is a very nice person with a vast amount of chem expirence and i think that he needs to be teaching upper div classes.

He definitely knows what he's talking about, and he expects everyone to know as well. Because of that, his lectures are not helpful, and he likes to jump around. If you do his recommended problems in the back of each chapter, it'll be okay. He's lenient on the midterm, and will post a practice exam online that is quite similar to the actual midterm.

this was for Fall 09.... He is an awesome professor. He tries ... a little too hard to be funny with corny formula jokes. His midterms were easy, but... his final wasn't that great. Still ended with an A. Go to office hours w/ TAs and Janda. Super helpful. Other than that, good guy good guy.

Professor Janda is a really nice guy, and he's always willing to answer questions and help students. However, he doesn't really teach what you need to know for the exam. He just flashes the slides from the book website with very little explanation. If you are stuck with him, I recommend LARC tutoring. It will save your grade.

Very nice man. He was very helpful and always willing to accommodate. His lectures, however, were very confusing and he tended to overcomplicate things. If not for the T.A.'s and the textbook, I would not of learned anything. I think he is way to smart to be teaching 1A.

Ok he cares about his students succeding, so he offers his help. The midterms were relatively easy and straighforward. The final was very difficult though. I had a B+ until the final, and it dropped me to a C+

Entertaining person, but not a fabulous teacher. His teaching skills are sub par though he is a very smart man. He tends to give you A LOT of extra info. His midterms and final are all over the place. If you are not a fan of chem do not take him. But if you are good at chem, i suggest him because its easy. The electronic homework is a waste.

AHHH! Do not take him. Although its an intro class, it was miserable. The electronic homework component is even worse for this class. This guy should definitely stick to research.

If you just want to pass a chemistry class for the sake of passing it, then don't take his class. His class is for the students who are interested in Science and want to learn something beyond. Just be sure to preview, pay attention in class, and then review. Pay a little effort will help you to ace his class or even set the curve.

Professor Janda is funny, has many "Senior Citizen" moments. He's very intelligent, almost to the point of being excessive. I skipped lecture frequently, and as long as you go to discussion and LARC helped. LARC sections filled quickly. Not going to lecture actually prevented overcomplication about the topics.

The really good thing about Janda is that he lets his students use a note card for every exams. His exams are generally fair. However, he can be very absentminded at times. He sometimes makes chemistry a little less grueling. He is very helpful and is willing to stay after class until you understand the material. I suggest you take him.

I thought Janda was a very nice professor. I found him entertaining whenever he got lost or almost fell off the stage. I didn't really HAVE to go to lecture because he was confusing at times. Easy tests and mandatory discussions. I'm ehh about this professor, really. My TA was way more helpful than he was, he was way too smart to be teaching 1A.

Yea, he's nice and funny and whatnot, but should probably stick to research bc he definitely was not meant to teach. He's also confusing bc when he's working a problem, he'll just stop about 10mins in and realize a mistake. To make up for it though, his exams are fair and straightforward and there is a ton of extra credit.

very nice professor. Very intelligent. May be too intelligent to teach this low of a course class, but still tries to dumb it down as much as he can for the non-physical science majors

Janda is a very friendly professor. He tries very hard to relate to us and to teach, and is very fair. Gives plenty extra credit. However, he is so knowledgeable that his lectures may be incomprehensible to a student who is new to the subject. I found myself learning from the book most of the time, and used lectures to supplement indepent learning
