I was told that his history classes were great, but he is absolutely terrible for an FS professor. It was joint taught and Pinnow just let the other professor over power him. I had to be dragged out of bed to go to class and he seemed to look down on the students. He also only provided negative comments on any speeches and papers.

Comment:

For a 100-level course he expected students to have a high understanding/ interpreations of historical events - but we took this class to learn how to do that. Hard grader and review terms focused on material barely mentioned in class. Extremely passionate though and the class discussions of readings were enjoyable and educational.

This was certainly a difficult class with the level of reading involved. But it was fun, insightful, and engaging. Prof. Pinnow never shies away from trying new methods of teaching to keep the class lively and interactive for everyone. Highly recommended for students interested in medicine/science, but want a new way of looking at it.

Really tough professor when it comes to grading papers (I frequently got comments like "Great Paper!... B+), but the conversation will have you enjoying class and learning a great deal. Like someone before me said, take this class if you want to learn, not boost your GPA.

Ken Pinnow is an excellent professor. Sure, some times his expectations for short answer questions are a bit too oddly specific, but on the whole he's willing to grade fairly. And if you're unwilling to put in the effort, you will receive a low grade. Which is essentially what happened to me.

He likes the ladies. Personally I felt that he was way too general. I didn't like how he would ask the class very vague questions and expect specific answers. It didn't work well with my personality. I felt that he was a difficult grader who didn't really explain his policies or identify why you received the grade you did. Plus, never write "novel"

A really awesome professor. The lectures are frequent, but its his style and Friday's make it worth it. He has a good sense of humor when he uses it. He asks a lot of essays but it preps you to do a good job and more than willing to talk after class or set up an appointment.

pinnow is effing awesome, i loved his class and everything about him. he's a tough grader but he gets the best out of you. he's super enthusiastic about what he teaches, and he respects the students who actually participate. super cute, too :)

Hard grader, great man. He really know what he is talking about and his passion for the material shows through. You get what you put into his classes. I also had a great time spending 3 weeks in Ukraine studying for his EL trip. One of the most rewarding times of my life.

Prof Pinnow is a great professor and advisor. He is always willing to help and very personable. Arguably the most difficult professor in the department, he assigns a lot of reading and is def. not an easy A. However, he is a fair grader, and if you do most of the work and participate, his classes are not all that tough and often enjoyable.

Professor Pinnow is a very tough grader, even if you do put in the effort. Very picky on tests and papers, expects you to remember small details. Very impersonal, but overall, the class is a good survey of Communism and Fascism and I can say I enjoyed the class.

I've had Pinnow for countless history classes. I keep taking him over and over. He's really interesting, he's really excited about the subject he's teaching,& always ready to help out. He lectures a lot, but they lectures arent boring- and he's cute.
