He is nice and has a corny sense of humor. Slightly difficult grader. Good luck trying to read his hand writing. No really, SIT AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN if you decide to take any class with him.

The class isn't as hard as it's made out to be, but he can do a good job of confusing you. This isn't a class to get an easy A but a solid B is easily achieved and everything you go over in class, can be simplified by looking up the info on Youtube. It an interesting course too.

This guy is really a bad professor. Hes a sweet old man, but his monotone voice always put me asleep. You have a quiz every friday because he wants you to show up to class. Lectures boring and useless and the textbook he uses is dry. Do not take this professor unless you want a bad semester

Philosophy of Religion. He's a great professor, very approachable. Quizzes every Friday, two exams--a midterm and a final. Go to his office hours and talk to him. He's great to talk to and will explain things for you again infull. He wants students to do well and to try, so even if you think you just need to hear the lesson outloud again, go. Take!

He is a sweet old man who knows his stuff. Go to EVERY class, write down everything he says, study your notes for the quizzes and tests, use his examples or similar examples. Very helpful in office hours. If you do bad on a quiz he'll tell you exactly what you did wrong, which is helpful for future quizzes and tests. Got an A.

A lot of people don't like him because they don't know how to study or do well in his class. They expect easy A's because it's core for most. But really, just go to class and write down what he says, the way he says it. Use his examples. You learn the arguments, either by memorization or familiarity and go in before quizzes for some help. I go an A

try not to sleep in this class. he is the most difficult, incomprehensible, unhelpful professor I know...and i know a lot of professors. good luck if you have no other choice-you will need it. (oh and since phil of religion no longer counts as both phil and religion core, then there is def no point in taking this course esp with him as your prof.

Prof Thompson is not as bad as these comments suggest. I came into the class with not much enthusiasm for the class; it was something I had to do for CORE. Yes he is old, yes he is traditional with his lectures, but what more can you do regarding the subject matter? I felt that he was clear in his explanations and fair in regards to his grades

He is definitely an old school philosophy professor: lectures the entire time, expects very specific, detailed answers in essay-format. A sweet old man with a keen understanding of the material.I found the subject interesting because I'm a philosophy minor but I don't know if I would recommend this course for those of you just taking it for core.

Go to class, take DETAILED notes and then write them word-for-word on quizzes. Quiz every friday on the material from that week and 2 exams (midterm + final). The exams are really long and fairly difficult. The material became more intriguing as the semester went on, but it's pretty dense stuff. Excellent professor, but it's a tough course.

Old school Philosophy prof, which means he's very demanding. This is a relatively tough class. He seems to want his lecture arguments worded back to him on exams exactly as they are given. It's tough if you don't like feeling like your just regurgitating useless information. Definitely don't make this your first philosophy class.

I would not suggest this class to those looking to fulfill a phil core requirement. I found that he was a very strict grader especially when it came to word choice. He is a very sweet professor; however I never missed a class, outlined notes for quizzes and meet with him and I still had to drop the class. Definitely don't take as a freshman!

It was hard at first, but I thought it eased up after the midterm. He's really helpful in office hours, makes a lot more sense one-on-one. To get an A: Go to every class, take good notes, organize them into cohesive sentences, and copy them down on the quizzes. If you pay attn then you don't really have to read. Got an A, but worked for it.

This man is truly unique. He is a wonderful teacher, one of the best at Loyola. He tells you exactly what will happen in the class, recaps lectures from the previous class, only HW is weekly quizzes which require you to think but are right on topic. He is articulate, sharp as a whip, really cute and kind. Loved his class, you will learn lot a lot!

Great Prof! He is a cute, old man with a huge brain. He stumbles on his words a bit which can be annoying. The material is not easy, so go to class! He is really helpful though and uses great examples to explain. The class itself is pretty boring. There is an easy quiz every friday and 2 tests, thats it. Pretty straight forward.

VERY HARD TEACHER! Unless you have experience with metaphysics I suggest you do not take this class. I was way over my head and I had no idea what he was talking about in his lectures. Quizzes and tests are difficult and readings are long and hard to understand. Only for hardcore philosophy majors. Very nice person and is humorous at times.
