Comment:

Get the textbook and only read the textbook. Class is mandatory but in the 3 hours nothing he says is really important for the test except for maybe a few definitions. There is a HUGE group project and it is very complicated. He will not explain it in class so read all of the instructions online. Most papers are 80-100 pages long.

Better off taking this course with dinapoli over summer. This man will do anything in his power to make you fail, etc. If you don't participate he gets offended. He sends emails like it's harassment. I would rather take ryalls again.

Very nice, knowledgeable, and interesting man. unfortunately... PAPER IS RIDICULOUS and very unclear, most stressful situation of my entire life, want to cry. Lectures full time and unfortunately the notes from lecture will not help you at all on tests. Even though i like him as a person, i would respectfully decline taking a course with him again.

Take this course with someone else! The capstone project is ridiculous and this isn't even a capstone course but my group got an A so it's possible. Test material has nothing to do with his lectures but if you don't go to class your grade drops. You need the book because that is where test questions come from. He gave feedback that was not useful.

His class was at 7:30am for 3 hours every week, he always goes full time. None of his lecture material were on his exams, NONE. His class is a waste of time and hes very arrogant. Not to mention his Capstone project was easily 1000x harder than my actual project for Capstone. My last semester of UCF has been hell... avoid taking at all costs

This class is ridiculous, you are there till the very last minute. He does attendance the last minute of class, Constant note taking without the opportunity of using a computer. In class notes aren't on the test. Capstone project for a noncapstone class, our project was 60+ pages and barely worth anything for your final grade. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!

Soooo much notetaking, and No computers or any tech is allowed at all. He is a when it comes to the 21st century student, he is a neanderthal. Pop quizzes are used for attendance. The videos are ancient and of poor quality. People keep talking about how nice he is. No, he is not at All. It is a front. His capstone project is Ridiculous!

The con of this course is the HUGE group "Capstone" project. He is unclear in explaining what is expected so make sure you see his GA for help. My project was 60 pages & my group got an A. Don't make that scare you, he is an amazing professor and super knowledgeable about the topic. Use quizlet & the book for the test, barely used lecture notes.

Rivers is one of the best professors at UCF. He is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. Of all the classes in ComDis at UCF, his MC class is THE BEST PREP for what grad school is like. Yes, you have to work hard. Yes, you have to study. Yes, you have to go to class. Welcome to the real world! Im an SLP now& still thankful for his class

He is truly an ego-maniac. The capstone project is honestly a waste and it is pointless. He makes you do activities that have nothing to do with what he was talking about in the lecture just to keep us till the end of class. If you miss 3 classes or more he drops a whole letter grade even if you have paperwork as to why you missed class. AVOID HIM.

He's unbearable; Superiority complex; loves to hear himself talk; Vague; pretends to care about people. Mandatory attendance. Drags out class times to torture students; Sends the class so many emails, it's HARASSMENT. Info from lectures do not appear on tests. Read the book again and again if you MUST take him. Material is easy enough.

He is rude, and will never ever admit when he is wrong. Its his way or the highway. Also, he makes you complete this horrific outlines. They are so time consuming, and they are only worth 2% of your final grade, but if you dont complete them you get remediated. He also will never let you go early, he keeps you to the last second.

Although he is very knowledgeable and you do learn a lot in his class, he is a complete ass. He is rude and calls his students out in class inappropriately. He has a terrible superiority complex and refuses to help you on the project. When you do ask, he tells you to go to the writing center or he copies and pastes the syllabus. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!

If you are trying to excel academically and ultimately become a competent Speech-Language Pathologist, then Rivers' course is for you. If you want a course where the instructor "hands" out As, then this course isn't for you! He makes you think critically and apply yourself. Honestly, if you read the material and apply yourself, you will get an A.

He's terrible honestly. The class isn't boring but his tests have nothing to do with the notes and are 100% book, he is impossible to please and has the most ridiculously extensive project. Over 100 pages of hard work and I got a C. Getting an A in his class is impossible.

Dr. Rivers is nice, but his class can be awful. The material is interesting, but the class is SO long. Tests are hard-READ THE BOOK & glance @ the articles on the syllabus. Dont miss class! On papers-answer the ?s in order in paragraph form. Be sure to get in a good capstone group! Communicate with him & ask ?s in person b/c he is vague with email.

He gives A LOT of work. He grades very tough and his exams are based off hidden study guides. NOT on the notes. Loved the content of the class, he divides the 3 hours very well. He's not TERRIBLE, but it you want an A, take someone else.

This man is the most abysmal teacher that I have ever come across in all of my time in academia. He is completely unclear and incredibly vague for a person who expects so much from his students. He is tremendously unfair in grading, and has a terrible superiority complex. I have never been more disappointed with UCF for hiring such an awful person.
