Comment:

My initial impressions were somewhat unfavorable, but throughout the semester she has proved to be a fair and helpful teacher. Don't expect to cruise by without trying, she will make you participate in class and you will lose participation points for not showing up. But if you show up and put in the work you'll do fine, she's a fair/nice grader.

Comment:

Very good teacher. Some of the things she has you do in class seem a bit rudimentary, but it really does help the language become concrete for you. She is a very lenient grader, but she will make sure to let you know if she thinks you have a problem with something. Very kind, and very attentive to her students. Would take for 201, but can't.

I loved her, It was nice and easy. I really liked her as a teacher. We would have a vocabulary quiz/test every other week or so. There were around 4-5 vocabulary themes. The final was nerve wrecking for me because it was an oral with another student. But I ended up getting a 95 on the final.

Professor Chermel has been the best professor for me at NIU so far. I highly recommend her just due to the fact that she teachers the class in an enthusiastic way. Professor Chermel is always willing to help out students and her explanations are crystal clear. Take her if you want to learn and have fun.

Treats students like they are in elementary school in class (has everyone sit in a circle, do easy activity that don't have a point). Tests are hard and often don't reflect what was concentrated upon in class (which was mostly vocab). I did not learn very much with this professor which will make the next class hard

Overall, a very approachable and easy teacher. I felt she made it so the material and her vocab quizzes weren't too difficult. She didn't collect many homework assignments which could be difficult if you want to beef up your grade and she wasn't one to respond to emails very promptly.

She is fantastic! Best Spanish teacher I've had here at NIU. Class is fun and what we LEARN is easy to understand. I wish I would've taken her for 202. She's clear with the rules, speaks it slow and clear & has a nice voice, and incredibly helpful.

Such a great Prof! Fact pace class to keep you engaged and thinking, some group work to reinforce the language, easy to get a hold of, grades quickly, very nice, prepares you for tests/quizzes well! She's wonderful!

Chermel is an awesome professor. She takes the time to explain things and genuinely cares about how her students do in class. Lots of group and partner work. All homework is online and fairly easy. Planning on taking her for 202 because she is AMAZING

I didn't think she was a very good instructor, but she tries. A lot of my issues with her, aren't her fault, they are the whole spanish curriculum. You have different instructors who emphasize different material, so when you go from one course to the next, its really hard to keep up. Try to take the same instructor for 201/2

Kerry is a great teacher especially for this class! prior to this I have had a TON of experience in Spanish, but many of my classmates did not. In this class you learn mostly vocab and she doesnt really care too much about your grammar. Attendance is mandatory and she makes that known. She's a great teacher and really cares about her students!

Very good teacher. Take home compositions were the best!!! Lots of sol y viento hw but easy. Take home quizzes and activities. she really helps you practice and learn. She even review with class before test. She wants you to succeed. Only bad part is always working with a partner which isnt that bad if you have a friend or sit next to someone.

I was really nervous for this class because I am not great at talking in spanish but she made it very comfortable and a great atmosphere to learn it. I would recomend her over any other professor! She is great at speaking the language, but also understands we are not fluent and using words that students understand. Very easy relaxed class.
