Really easy class. Not too much homework and only one midterm and a final that both had study guides with everything on them that you need. Dr. Soper is a comedic genius in my opinion. Some of his stories were so funny and he tells them so well. Best GE class because you don't really have to pay attention to it other than a couple of short essays.

You've got 3 reading/video assignments every week due before class and 3 short papers throughout the semester. Grading is pretty forgiving as far as any written assignments go. The exams are mainly term/art memorization with small reading sections. Nothing is too stressful or difficult.

I loved this class. I am not in the humanities field, but this was the best choice to fulfill my GE credits. Almost all of the homework is accessible online (he usually just has you watch a few short videos or read a short article to prepare for class), and he makes it all interesting. We watched Star Wars for homework! Go to reviews for the tests.

Wonderful professor! I learned more in this class than in any other class I've taken! He expertly simplifies dense and complex (yet fascinating) theory, and it's clear cares more about the learning than the grades. Lastly, class discussions are a blast! He has hilarious stories and class content; plus, he doesn't mind joking around with students.

Dr. Soper is AMAZING! He is hilarious and his lectures are fantastic. Instead of a bunch of reading, he assigns videos before class. We even watched Star Wars for one assignment. I really learned a lot about the humanities and enjoyed myself while doing it. This was the best GE I have ever taken! Seriously, TAKE HIS CLASS!

Dr Soper is great! I would recommend him for any humanities class. He is very clear about what needs to be done and what will be on the tests. He posts his powerpoints and study guides online as well. He does give out lots of assignment, but they are usually easy. He assigns a lot of videos for homework instead of doing readings which is nice

I am NOT a humanities person, but I enjoyed his class. He got his PhD in satire or something, so he is pretty funny. His lectures are engaging. I didn't mind the homework because I felt it was relevant to the class. This class and this professor are the best choice for your GE! Your grade a couple short papers, 2 tests, and reading notes- not bad!

Dr. Soper does a fantastic job of making the Humanities interesting and applicable. He's open to making the class work for you and appeals to many different learning styles. Bonus there is no textbook and most of the "readings" are short youtube videos. Despite being one of my least favorite subjects, he's one of my favorite professors.

Dr. Soper is a good teacher. Lectures are good and he keeps it interesting. But, he gives A LOT of homework for a GE class. He makes you do a journal entry before every class, and sometimes the reading/videos are pretty lengthy. He's assigned 2 hour videos outside of class for the journal. Attendance is graded without any missed days dropped.

Kerry Soper is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Humanities Department at BYU. Soper is GREAT at telling you exactly what you need to know. He gives good, fun lectures and is not at all boring. He has you view online clips instead of reading a textbook and has clear outlines of what you need for a test. HE IS A GEM, TAKE HIS CLASS.

Mostly I'm giving this review because Dr. Soper said in class his only academic regret is never having a chili pepper icon on rate my professor... But he deserves it haha he is super funny, his lectures can even make a 9 am class enjoyable. Take his class you won't regret it. HE ROCKS!!!

Dr. Soper is an AMAZING professor for this class! He makes the lectures totally enjoyable and plays lots of video and music clips as well as draws his own cartoons to explain concepts sometimes. The work load really isn't hard compared to other classes and the TAs are great and tell you what you need to know for the exams. Strongly recommend!

Kerry Soper is hands down one of the best professors I've had at BYU. I took Western Humanities from him and it became my favorite class. The homework load is light & there are only 2 tests, & 4 papers (you can drop lowest score). Great choice to fulfill GE and he tells tons of funny stories in class. Soper makes Humanities enjoyable & applicable.

Dr. Soper is easily one of the best professors on campus. The midterm and final are fair. Four papers, a creative project and daily writing warm ups. Plus, Dr. Soper is super funny and a really engaging lecturer.

A=95% but highest grade in class on any paper was 95-96, so VERY few were A's. Tests are written but study HARD & can get nearly full pts. Final non-comp. I took this based on the raving reviews here on RMP, & I liked him a lot at first, but steadily liked him less over the semester. I didn't think he always graded fairly & he was rather cocky.

Professor Soper is AWESOME! He is really knowledgable and creative. He is an artist as well as a professor. His class really exposes you to a variety of mediums. I wish that we had gone deeper into some of these but since it's an introductory level class, it fulfills its purpose.
