Disorganized. Poor Lecturer. Hates Pitt. (Loves CMU) Does not use courseweb. Rarely know what he is talking about. Simply does not know how to teach. He is a good person and will try to help if you go in to see him, but his help can make you more confused than when you came in.

He has a healthy sense of pragmatism and a realistic perception of himself and the students. He's courteous, respectful, and does want to see students succeed. He's not a particularly good instructor, but he's a good guy personally, and I give him credit for that. If you just want to pass, find the HW solutions online and memorize them.

You won't learn much, but if you're good at memorization you'll get an A! He is so lazy he hasn't changed the homework in 8 years so everyone has the answers. The past tests are also very similar to the tests he gives out. I'm not sure the grader even looked at my tests answers for the emag quiz.

Absolutely terrible professor. That being said, the exam problems are exactly the homework problems, which makes studying pretty easy.

I had Dr.Chen for 1259 and 1266. He makes vector-calc based EM easier than it should be but that is only because it is really hard. I think he gives you a free 10% toward your grade but it doesn't guarantee an A. He is a good professor and I highly recommend.

Hard homeworks, but know them and you will do fine on the exams. Sometimes lacks a little clarity in lecture and focuses more heavily on the math than the conceptual theory which is my only real complaint. Pick up Engineering Electromagnitics by Ida, or Field and Waves by Cheng as these are much better books and you don't need the required one
