Comment:

Dr. Hutson is the best! I took him for Math 160 and I fell in love with the class. Because of him, I am an Applied Math major and I made him my advisor. I was always popping in to ask him questions. Very accessible outside of class and his lectures are amazing. He makes sure everyone understands the material and is very clear with his teaching.

BEST professor in the math department! I have hated math for the last 7 years and Dr. Hutson makes me excited to come to class. He gives amazing lectures and makes sure every single person in the room understands before he moves on to something new. Homework is a lot but it's up to you how much you do. Furman should give him an award, great prof!!

Comment:

Dr. Hutson was one the the best professors I've had. He really did care about if we knew the material and was willing to go over it again if there was still some people who were confused. Homework wasn't mandatory and he never checked it but it would usually help in the long run. Take his class. He's the best!

Dr. Hutson was a great prof for 120. The class itself is very easy, but Hutson makes the material very easy to understand and is always willing to answer questions. Tests were of average difficulty, but the final ended up being tough. Take this class if you're a humanities major and need to fill the math requirement with something easy.

Beginning of class was always spent going over any questions we had on homework. I never felt stupid for asking questions and he always double checked to make sure we understood what he was explaining. You don't actually need to do the homework or reading because we do the same thing in class. Tests were not easy but nothing came as a surprise.

He's awesome! He made it all really understandable. I HATE MATH and am awful at it, but he made me look forward to class each day. I took Finite with him in the summer, and I didn't feel rushed or anything. Definitely take Dr. Hutson if you can! Also, I didn't agree with his grading on something, so we talked about it and he changed my grade.

If you have to take this class, TAKE HUTSON. He is awesome and makes a boring class bearable and even funny. He gives quizzes almost every class but they are one question and he usually tells you exactly the type of question he will ask so you should always get 100s.

What a great professor! Had daily quizzes, but if you were attentive for when he answered HW questions you could do well on these quizzes. Such a fun class and made everything easy to understand. I really feel that he taught me a lot and made this math easy to understand because it can be tricky.Highly recommend taking his course!

Best class I've ever taken, no question. He's not an easy professor by any means, but his lectures are incredibly clear and surprisingly interesting. Be prepared for challenging tests and homework, but also be prepared to learn an amazing amount.

Dr. Hutson is an amazing professor. His lectures are thought provoking and fun to participate in. He presents information very well. The class isn't easy though. absolutely LOVE dr. hutson!!! probably one of the NICEST and most HELPFUL professors at fu. i took him for calculus and never thought i would enjoy it, but i did. his tests are tricky, but if you pay attention to his examples and make sure you understand the material, a's are possible. with moderate amount of effort, i got an A- in the class.

Dr. Hutson is really as good as math professors come. He gets REALLY excited about material sometimes and just might manage to convince you to feel the same. One of the most helpful professors I have encountered. My only complaint is that tests tend to run a little bit long, but he usually compensates with a curve or opportunity to make up points.

Very helpful outside of class. Really nice man. Take advantage of his quizzes and problem sets, they help balance out your test grades. Probably one of the better math professors, but his tests can prove to be challenging and sometimes unpredictable.

-loves math. loves to help. can explain things hundreds of ways. is patient. i cant speak for his non major classes or low level classes but his major classes, you do have to know your stuff. he expects you to know it and be able to use it for tests, not just memorization

Comment:

Dr. H is great. Probability should NEVER be taught during the winter term. It was by far the hardest math class I've taken ever. Dr. H did his best to keep the class up to par, and was VERY accessible after class and in his office - even really early in the morning. He's definitely one of the best in math, but Probability is extremely hard.
