Comment:

The homework load was sometimes unrealistic but it helped me learn the material. The quizzes are very similar to questions that appear on tests and for the most part boost your grade. He is much easier to understand one on one during office hours than in class. Take him if you're skilled in problem solving, but stay away if you dislike a challenge.

Comment:

Not a bad guy at all. He is not great at explaining and his printable notes contain minor errors, but he is reasonable. He will try to scare you, but you should stick with it. Also, If you talk to him about the workload, he will lessen homework. For the most part, I found the homework helpful. Homework is MUCH harder than the exams.

Kevin James is a really good instrusctor. I thought the class would be impossible when i saw how long the homework was, but the tests are reasonable and he gives a lot of partial credit if you make an algebraic mistake but know the calc. He is really helpful, and he even helped us all with a hard exam problem several times. Take him

Dr. James assigns a lot of homework. I took 2-3 hours to do homework almost every night. However, he knows how to teach the material very well. I understood it very well. He gave two quizzes a week and the four tests were reasonable. They were all challenging but extremely similar to the quiz questions. Overall, the class was not that bad.

Dr. James is a great teacher, who is very knowledgeable of the subject and cares about his students' success. However, he is by far the hardest teacher for MTHSC 206 at Clemson. The homework takes forever (expect to spend about 2-4 hours per night), and the tests are very difficult. Quizzes aren't bad and are given twice a week.

I believe that Kevin James is a very capable professor, he just teaches at a level that is not entirely reasonable for freshman and sophomore students. 100+ homework problems a night (250 one night). Test averages in the 50's. Derives and proves for entire class, and when commenting on the low test scores says, "You're not studying hard enough."

Please dont take him for 206 based on the good reviews from upper level students!His upper level classes must be better.Do not fall for it like I did!There is so much homework that you will go insane by the end. I am NOT kidding.I am a good student and this has been torture.He's nice but the MOST unreasonable professor I've ever had!Save yourself!!

Absolutely do not take this class. He's really nice and does care about his students but assigns spectacular amounts of homework and unless you devote your life to this class it will ruin your GPA. I've always been a good math student and this class made me want to change my major.

He is a very good professor and is extremely helpful. The hw was graded, and it was difficult. However, the tests were mostly computational with fewer proofs which made them much easier than the hw. I enjoyed this class a lot, and I would recommend Dr. James for any math class at Clemson.

He is a good professor who loves math. It's a hard class. He assigns homework almost every day depending on whether he covers all the materials in the section or not, so it's normal to spend a lot of time every day to work on it. Some hw problems are tough, but most of the time tests and quizzes are relatively fair. We do group quizzes.

He's a good professor who definitely has a great understanding of mathematics but goes into a lot of detail and spends a lot of time doing proofs that most students aren't that interested in because they are too difficult to follow. He's a nice guy, not an easy professor but I managed an A.

I had Dr. James for 311 and 412, and I really enjoyed both. He's a good lecturer with clear expectations and fair grading. Do your homework , pay attention in class, and if necessary, go ask for help in office hours. He's always willing to help, and he's a great communicator.

The best professor I've had for any MTHSC course. He is very knowledgeable on the material and can answer any question you might have. His lectures are very informative and his animated lecturing holds your attention. Doesn't try to trick you on the test, everything is very straight forward. He cares enough to learn his students' names unlike most.
