This professor knows his subject very well. The way he teaches is very clear. It is impossible not to understand the topic. He is very nice and polite. He really respects his students. Plus, before the exams he provides students with great review questions. Very nice professor!

Professor is not the best, he could use other methods to make the class better. Subject matter is confusing but he doesn't provide much clarity. There are only 3 grades for the class which means you have to bring it every time something is due. Record his lectures if you do decide to take the class, if not you will be lost.

By far the worse professor that I have ever had in my life, since grade school! He makes the subject SUCK, and if you ask him for help you walk away more confused then you started. Midterm is 33 1/2, Paper is 33 1/2 and Final is 33 1/2 of your grade...He needs to go and never come back.

Very Simple class, two test one paper all 33 percent of your grade, attendance is not recorded , ppl on this site say he is a bad teacher and hard test, i think its not that bad if you study the review sheets which are the only thing you need to study, paper was OK but still not bad , He is a great guy, he is leaving john jay for a new job

He is into the subject, but is very unclear on most of the material. Reviews sucks. To study is like studying a whole subject on boring arguments of law. He knows his authors and their arguments like the back if his hand and expects us to know it as well as him. Dummy!

It's not about how easy the class is, if you'd like to learn. I'm "grown up" and paid attention, got a B-. For those who aren't interested in PHI will find this class excrutiating. He's terrible at explaining things and dumbs down the concept to a point where it takes the interest out completely. Honest/Fair opinion. Nice guy but a bad teacher.

People who hate prof. Murtagh are the ones who either absents a lot or the ones who didn't pay attention in class. He explains things clearly in class and if you take good note, the answer of exams are basically in your note book. The review sheets that he hand out are the questions that will be on the exams. Grow up people, the class is an easy A

the worst professor i ever had in my life. He can not teach. He is pissed off at his life and will get it all out on you. His class is a waste of time. His tests and papers are extremely hard and you will get nothing out of his class, just a waste of your time and money.

I personally dont like this teacher...but not bc of his grading bc its pretty easy to pass his class 2 tests and a research paper...He is boring though and he doesnt know how to explain some things well either he lets the class explain also hate the fact that he kept questioning God's existence even after we were in another subject

I personally think Murtagh was great! so what if he says "right" its funny. Besides that he's really cool and he will go over everything until the whole class gets it! And he is an athiest but hes not disrespectful at all, my dad is a pastor and i felt totally comfortable in his class. And who doesnt like South Park!

Worst professor ever...YES THE WORST. When you ask questions, you get no type of feedback. He reads straight from the book and to be honest thats crap because I can do that by myself at home. This could as well be an online course, his presence is unnecessary.

He does say "right" a lot and loves his diet pepsi, but he is not the worst professor. He stayed behind several times and clarified many things. His midterm paper is challenging and be very detailed in your 2 exams.

when i started the class i hated him. He sounds like he's tuff but he's not. Study for your midterm and final, write the final paper and your ok. the notes are what ur really have to study to pass the two test in his class. he might get annoyed by him stayin rite all the time.

you will not need a text book his teaching is not the greatest. He does not clearly answer your questions he gives two tests midterm and final and then you have one paper he takes those grades and divides by three and that is your grade for the class make sure you get high grades on all three or he will fail you. make sure you take down notes.

This prof is no joke, his grading is out of this world. writing the paper is a waste of time because he wants it in Philosophy format???.If half the class fail the midterm, what does that tell you.If you choose this prof your not going to get that learning feeling, you only going to take a risk that might hurt your gpa. This professor is by far the dumbest professor i have ever had! I am a straight A student and this guy doesn't know how to grade! On top of that he keeps saying "right," last time a girl counted him saying it in class 34 times! He's an atheist and completely disrespectful to his students he called in security for a kid who fell asleep in class!CRAZ
