LOL! I had this guy as a professor back in 1994 and he sucked then too. It's nice to see some things just don't change.

If you got a low grade in this class make sure you check the syllabus and run the numbers yourself. He miscalculated my grade. When I called him out on it he changed it with the registrar.

First off if you want a great knowledgeable professor take any classes that Laura Wittern Keller offers at SUNY. This guy is a bore and just plain awful. He spoke about how much he loved his Irish roots and heritage but still gives us a mid term on St Pats. Take only if you must

Is from Ireland and loves to pick on students in the front row so dont sit there. he tends to ramble alot but will get the main points across. reading is more important and the textbook was a pretty easy read. if you keep up with the reading it is not too tough of a class.

This professor is terrible. He doesn't teach you anything, just rambles incoherently, and tests are extremely hard. I spent most of my time studying for this class, and still managed only a C. He doesn't teach at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This professor is absolutely terrible. He doesn't lecture anything that is on the exams. He says he is not here to teach you what will be on the test but to "enhance your knowledge" on material you should already know yet attendance is mandatory. 6 chapters/test. Talks about his family. Goes off on tangents. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!

The worst teacher ever. The only C I've ever gotten. He went on tangents not related to the topics and never got back on track. I received no help-he's not nice. I studied so hard and did so badly. Do not, I repeat, do not take his class.

Avoid this professor, took this class with him my freshman year (2008) and it was horrible!!! Only thing I remember was zoning out for a second and when I focused back I heard him say"It's like a dinosaur that got bonked on the head and its destroying it's own environment..." I still have no idea how this related to the Kennedys.

Shanley is a interesting professor. He gives 4 exams ( 2 all MC's and 2 with short essays). His lectures are irrelevant to the exams and the exams come straight out of the textbook. You should buy the study guide and careful study the textbook. If you can grasp history well then this class won't be too bad.

Attendance is mandatory even though his lectures are irrelevant to the tests. You have to thoroughly read the assigned chapters, and teach yourself, as the tests are hard and include extremely specific questions. AVOID this class.

Professor threw the entire class out the second to last class before exam. Awful teacher, class is an utter waste of time. He taught us more about his family then history. Take this class from someone else!

Great professor. He is fun and enthusiastic on the subject. He does go off topic alot so it can be hard to follow though. Final grade is based on only two exams, one midterm and final in essay format. Attendance is required. Overall the course was great and he is fun to learn from.

His lectures have 0 relavance to what's on the tests. He uses the worst textbook possible and takes his 50 MC questions from the unreasonably hard AP test bank.

Great professor and a good guy. Gives you study guides with questions that are on the test a week before the test. He goes over material several times but this is what you need to know. I recommend taking his class.

This guy is great. Never read a day in his class. just showed up listened to him swear and go on tangents that were hilarious. Only this guy could make a class about the Cuban Missile Crisis that lasted only a few days.

I am a very bright student with a 3.7 gpa. However, this teacher is by far the worst professor i have ever had. he goes on tangents about topics that aren't covered on the tests. He talks more about his own life then the text book. He covers chapters after he already tests you on the material. And he wears the worst hairpiece i have ever scene

Comments about how Shanley doesn't lecture on test material , or is very specific about text material covered on tests say that people only wanted to do the classwork, , and that they thought they knew enough to coast. He gets students interested and the take home part of finals are easy. Just show that you grasp the material, it's not that hard.
