Schenkerian analysis is a fabulous course, no matter what your major. Swinden makes the course material applicable to musical performance. You will never hear music the same! Very engaging course, but make sure you have time for the work outside of class.

Informative, concise lectures with elements of humour that made every class worthwhile. Helpful office hours and knowledge of course content is why Swinden truly deserves 5's across the board. Ok-I had this guy at McMaster for 2nd year harmony & I believe it was the 1st time he had taught at uni level (before he went to WLU). Very passionated about 20th century harmony and he tried his best to teach my class but some of my classmates gave him a hard time. I'm glad he's doing well at WLU and I wish him luck!

Swinden is an incredibly smart man who knows how to pass his knowledge on. I found him very clear, he was always helpful and would explain things differently if you didn't understand his first approach. I had him two years ago, and I still find myself saying 'Hi' to him every day, because he's just that friendly and approachable!

Swinden is FANTASTIC! Need I say more? His classes are incredibly well thought out, his lectures are insightful, and he's a real joker! He will put you in your place! Makes you want to come to class and even do your homework! Swinden is always willing to go the extra mile for his students. VERY HELPFUL! Swinden as Dean? I'm voting him in for sure!
