Prof. G is an extraordinary professor & gives amazing lectures & elucidates the magic in Milton (both academically and for personal introspection). BUT, this class is hard. The weekly quizzes are hard, and the essays are graded even harder. Go to EVERY lecture and highlight your book. Office hours are mandatory for the essays. 10/10 worth it tho!

Goodman was straight up amazing. Her lectures were like unfolding a puzzle in which you begin to discover the world of John Milton. I loved it! She is thorough but not overwhelming. There's lots of reading but I found it all enjoyable, especially as Goodman taught me how to really read through Milton. At the end I felt like I could do anything!

Professor Goodman is brilliant and kind. Her lectures weave together in insightful and delightful ways. You won't want to skip class because you'll truly want to hear every word she has to say. My only qualm is that she bent over backwards to defend Milton's blatant sexism. Everything else was top notch!

Professor Goodman is wonderful. A brilliant lecturer - that's what it takes to make someone as old as Chaucer interesting. After taking her class, I changed my major to English because I just loved it so much. Super sweet in office hours - she always brings cookies or candies and is very willing to answer questions, no matter how basic.

I feel like Professor Goodman is just objectively awesome. She had the most organized and insightful lectures out of all the professors I've taken in the department. She's also really helpful in office hours and even went out of her way to simulate office hours via e-mail when I couldn't attend her office hours. Brilliant and dedicated.

Great Professor. Brilliant insights in lectures, covering a variety of aspects pertaining to Milton's career that I hadn't any prior knowledge of. Really helpful, and wholly invested in teaching and helping her students succeed. One of the English department's best.

Redefines & exceeds the limits of "awesome"! Basically beyond helpful. She also makes an extra effort to remember students individually by looking up their pictures on bspace so as to call them by the correct name (slightly sneaky of her, but nice). In a woid, supoib.

I love this woman! She's so nice and helpful in OH/e-mail. Can't say I love the class, however. Readings were pretty heavy after the midterm, and I didn't like that the class was both big and sectionless. There are readers for this class (though Prof Goodman does her fair share of grading and she supposedly looks over all papers turned in); I don't

I really wasn't interested in any of the literature before 45A, but I left with a great appreciation, and went on to take her Milton seminar. Great lecturer, and really has some interesting things to say.

Prof Goodman is one of the most brilliant and insightful professors I've had. She doesn't assign much reading and she encourages students to come to office hours by offering fresh-baked cookies. GSI grading is tough and they are unclear about what they want, but overall a good experience She won the Distinguished Teaching Award Spring 2005!

Prof. Goodman is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are well-organized and extremely enlightening. If you go to office hours though, make sure you have something concrete to talk about or be prepared to be patronized. Take a lot of notes: you will be rewarded on the tests for regurgitation.

One of the best teachers I have ever had at Berkeley. I had her for a Wordsworth/Coleridge seminar: 15 students. I felt inspired to do all my reading and left class every day satisfied with the discussion. She really wants her students to succeed and spends A LOT of time grading each essay.

She makes Spenser, Chaucer, and Milton come alive. Lectures are very well presented and engaging and encourage independent thinking, although she goes a little too quickly for my taste. Be prepared to scribble for an hour straight. Very nice and helpful in office hours.

She's awesome and really nice! Extremely helpful and the type of professor who actually teaches for the students, not just for the research or papers. Very approachable. The material may be ambiguous but she does a great job making things clear to the students-- mind-blowing insight. She's a genius.
