Took him for Middle Eastern Politics. There are two exams and one 12-page paper. Exams are a little stressful, he gives a study guide of 40 terms, but only questions you on 6 of them with open response questions. If you pay attention in class you should do fine

Beattie is wonderful. He's funny and engaging with students. He really knows his stuff. Very intelligent man. His lectures can be fairly lengthy and sometimes a little boring, but if you take good notes, you'll learn a lot.

I had Prof. Beattie back in 1998-2001 and he was one of my favorite professors. He was always engaging, willing to help whenever and however needed. I randomly ran into him years later in Park City, UT and he remembered me. He was not just a great teacher, but mentor and just great man as well!

Brilliant Brilliant man! He knows his stuff inside and out. You learn more than you think you can in one semester. I recommend taking any class that he offers. Middle Easter Politics and Arab-Israeli Conflict are two amazing classes!

Very few grades in this class. The midterm, final, and term paper were the only assignments, so if you messed up on one, very little chance to make it up. He lectures a LOT, and there's very little discussion. He doesn't put up his power points, so make sure to take notes. Fairly easy grader and very interesting topic that he's obviously expert in

Good professor, learned a lot. However, he has LONG LECTURES that drag on for seemingly much longer than the class actually is. Dont bother with the reading unless you're studying for exams. He gives very unhelpful study guides (40 term lists for a 4 term ID on the test). But you'll learn a lot if you can stay awake.

I was told ahead of time that Kirk Beattie was a "Simmons favorite" so I was excited to take his Islam & The West (honors) course. His formal attire and accomplishments make him an inspiration... sometimes his lectures got lengthy and I'd get a little lost, but all in all, I really enjoyed his class. He's funny and promotes discussion which I like.

He is very enthuastic about his work, can be hard to follow at times, but is liberal with office hours. His tangents are wonderful and he definatley tests on lectures so don't miss class. The readings are interesting and he is more balanced in his analysis than Americans are used to.
