Gives u of M a bad name. I dont understand how he managed to get a PhD. Does not understand any subject material. And clearly has some sort of mental issue that prevents him from comprehending basic concepts. Very sad that students are forced to work with him

Overall the class was structured poorly. It was very difficult to follow along and the prof was often scatter-brained. He did not go in depth on any of the material, and homework assignments required you to solve problems that were not covered in lecture OR in the book. I scraped by with a B putting in honest effort but hardly learned anything.

Kiumi is the worst prof I've ever had during my 4 years at UofM. It's clear he has dementia or something. He has lots of blank moments. You'll catch yourself itching your head like he does. He only covered 4/8 chapters for the final, and well. Good luck Charlie.

This class has been terrible. Don't take this with him if you plan to learn anything. He only managed to cover 1 chapter for the first half of this portion of the class, and crammed the more complicated parts (5 chapters) into the second. Clearly unprepared for the class, doesn't seem terribly interested in his students.

Dr. Akingbehin seems like a very nice man, but this class has been awful. He presents the information without context, so its difficult to know what he's talking about. He takes a lot of time on basic examples, and they are nothing like what is on the homework. He doesn't seem interested in how well students are learning the material.

If you wish to learn anything in this class more than definitions, do not take this class. He is getting old, and it's clear. You will be forced to put everything on the slides on your cheat sheet, and from that point you will not learn anything useful. He seems nice, but it's clear teaching has gotten hard on him.

Not everyone's cup of tea, I'll be honest. I'd suggest looking up online lectures of him because his teaching style turns off a lot of students. Personally, I learn pretty well from him. But I know a lot of students who have to take him do so online to avoid seeing him in person.

Comment:
Lectures are boring. Professor repeats himself a lot, which makes lectures drag on and on. Class exercises also take forever and are not that helpful. The final project/report were graded leniently, though. Most important thing: his exam questions come straight from the slides. Print them as your "cheat sheets" and you'll likely get 90+% easily.

Yes he did curve by a high margin , still I walked out from his class knowing NOTHING !!! if you have the choice to avoid him , do so if you really want to learn something.

I dont know how anyone could complain about this guy. its an easy A! also, you do stuff in this class, and he actually grades and gives comments on labs! he returns back stuff pretty often. leacture is usually like just 40 minutes lol. then like 20 minutes people participate in class excercise at end. group project, easy midterm, and lowers scale!

Although he may be a little hard to understand from time to time, he is a good teacher. You have to study his lecture and take advantage of cheat sheets on the exams. He is a really smart prof if you ever get to talk to him. Grading was fair, some questions could use being eliminated, assignments were a little hard but nothing awful.

Borderline useless. He knows his stuff but is terrible at presenting it (doesn't even do his own examples properly). He's overly rigid in his grading (don't use ANY methods besides what he uses on anything) and takes forever to return assignments. By the end of the semester, he wasn't even able to explain his own grading scale! Avoid!!

My only qualm about Kiumi is that he is close minded. CS is as much an art as a science. i.e. axioms pertaining to ADTs should not be limited to one line of functions. There are multiple answers to the same question. We should be able to give the one that satisfies it, not the professor.

Lectures and asking for help are pointless. You'll easily get at least 95% on all the assignments, and then take an obnoxiously long and confusing final which doesn't pertain to anything learned in class. The highest grade will be less than 80%.

You should avoid this professor. He curves the final grade, but is very harsh at grading tests and assignments. He is pretty useless at actually explaining the material. He tends to lose assignments or take weeks to grade them.

While he is a nice guy, and has easy projects, you won't be learning much more from him than what you could by just reading through the ppt slides yourself. I really feel that he doesn't have a firm grasp on the majority of the topics taught. Constant corrections were made by the students who were supposed to be the ones learning, not correcting!

This is the second class I've had with kiumi akingbehin. I am going to complain to the dean about him because he is completely useless. He admits that he's never read the book and teaches incorrect theories/information.

Very nice guy but grades too hard. Work isn't difficult but his specificity makes it hard. Curved the final grade, average was only 70 something. Tests are directly from ppt's, copy them exactly
