Comment:

Goes over the lab before you start and will help you with the lab if you ask. No pre-lab quizzes but you have to write a full lab report every week. Lab report criteria/format is unclear but he is a fairly easy grader and gives some feedback.

He is an awesome lab teacher. he is clear with what he wants in each report, and as they are not easy, he is flexible and will help if you ask. Slightly slow with emails and replying. But he is understandable and easy enough with grading. I enjoyed him very much! plus my lab was only a total of 6 people!

Midterm, Final, & Group Project with 10-12 page paper on a renewable energy source. Tests are on more than what he provides on the study guides. Notes are slightly helpful but not really. Goes off on tangents a lot but the material is sometimes interesting. I went, took notes, and studied very little for the tests and got an A. Don't buy the book.

Orgo is not an easy class but Steffen does teach;he goes fast at points and does get a lot of material in during the semester;he is willing to help;READ THE BOOK and do as many of the problems you can;you may learn more from the book than him;but still go to class and his office hours; his exams are tricky and can't be crammed for; study everyday

I personally really enjoyed Organic and found Steffen to be a decent teacher. READ THE BOOK. Seriously. Every chapter. Study a little every day, understand WHY reactions happen and you will do well. Steffen is always willing to help and curves everything generously. He genuinely cares about his students. Do not fear orgo!

Organic is hard. Steffen teaches to fast and expects that students understand right away. Is very disorganized and I eventually gave up on taking notes. His tests are hard so know the textbook really well to get a good grade. A faily easy grader if you put in some effort. Did well on final despite C's on tests and got a B in the class, not so bad

Had him for Organic Chem and Lab. The class itself is a lot of material so you have to do work out of class to get a good grade. I find his lecture helps fill the gaps the textbook missed, as well as making some of the material more relevant to real world applications. Just unsure as to the internet homework and how much if affected my grade...

so unorganized, half the stuff he lectured about was a tangent we didn't need to know about, tests were on things we never learned about, made us buy a textbook we didn't open once and then was worth nothing to sell it back, not straightforward, reminds me of Hagrid from Harry Potter

Organic is hard, and Steffen knows that, but he doesn't resign himself to letting kids fail. If you do practice out of the book, you will get good grades. The easier of the two orgo teachers, and a great guy who is willing to help if you want him to. I had him for lab and lecture and he made a very hard class managable.

AMAZING teacher and person. He really cares about teaching and he loves his students (even though it is difficult for him to learn names) He knows organic chemistry is hard but he tries his best to be fair to everyone and help them to learn it. He will do whatever he can to help you and he gives you a break on turning in labs on time.

Typical Chem Nerd, but very very helpful. Knows his sh*t and keeps the class entertaining. Please note: THIS IS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY...there's no such thing as easy in this field, but if you're going to take it at Fairfield, Steffen is your man.

I hated Orgo but this guy was the only good part of taking the course. He actually makes sure you understand what you're doing. He's a very funny guy and has lots of energy. Gotta love a guy who can drink Mountain Dew first thing in the morning!
