Comment:
Dr. Summers is one of those professors that reads straight from the powerpoint every time, which is mostly in the book. Very monotoned. Not given study study guides. Tests are difficult because they are 3 chapters worth of material for one 50 minute test. He still asked detailed questions. Uses TopHat for in class questions and attendance.

Dr. Summers is a strange dude, but if you moderately try in his class and show up for most of the lectures you will be fine. He does give study guides (they are long), and they do help you on his tests. He also curves a good deal at the end of the semester. I was expecting a B+ at best and ended up with an A in the course. Just give some effort.

Dr. Summers was a good professor. I took him for biological evolution and behavioral ecology. He assigned long papers in this class, but he gave us plenty of time to work on them. There were no real tests, only papers, which is nice if you're a good writer. All in all I liked the class.

Dr. Summers is a great professor. I enjoyed his lectures. Tests are hard, but it's possible to get As on them if you do the study guides (which are super long) and try to remember most of the details on the powerpoint slides. Highly recommended if you're interested in evolutionary biology (if not, you might have a hard time).

This was my favorite class EVER. Lab practicals were on herp, bird, and mammmal identification and required some SERIOUS studying, but I think we all ended up doing well. Final was essay questions on broad concepts. Lectures were easy to understand and tied in well with what we saw in the field. Dr. Summers was a great teacher and i learned a lot.

Dr. Summers goes through the powerpoints very fast. I would recommend bringing a tape recorder. He will give very easy pop quizzes for attendance grades. His exams are hard. Do the study guides, read the book, ask questions, and show up to the review sessions with questions. His study guides can be long and you don't have much time to finish them

Class was okay overall. He was a decent instructor. My only complaint is that he went too fast to really take notes and he waits a long time before putting his powerpoints on blackboard. Some of his material does not come from the book so it is hard to study without notes or the powerpoint slides. The evolutionary genetics portion was difficult.

This guy is ridic. AVOID at all costs. He sounds like Kermit and does not know how to LECTURE properly, incoherent slides, 90 questions study guides and only 30 opened end question exams.. do not take HIM! He is too smart for his own good and laughs at himself but that doesnt help you pass -_-

kind of prof who can put you to sleep if you're not into the material and he makes you earn your grade (and then some). pulled an A with the curve. only sign up if you're serious about your bio major. did i mention i despise t/f exams now thanks to him?

I should have failed this class, but didn't. I'm pleased about that, but I'm upset that he chose to make the class as hard as possible so that we don't learn anything. He goes into too many specifics that you don't even have a chance to get the gist of the core material. Don't take this guy.

Dr. Summers class was really hard. I made an F on every single exam and still got a C. I would recommend taking this class if you just want to get it done with and get a passing grade but not if you really want to learn anything.

This class is super hard! You really have to study hard for his tests. The final is alot harder than the tests in the class. There seems to be an outstanding curve at the end. I went from a 70 something to an A!!!

Genetics is hard no matter who you take it with. Summers has a weird voice but he explains stuff if you see him during his office hrs. He talks about AIDS and natural selection and mad cow disease in class and that was kinda interesting. And there's at least a 10 pt curve at the end so it's not bad.

HE IS SUPER WEIRD, his tests are really hard, but if you work hard memorizing (and there is tons of memorizing) and you can pull a test average in the 80's you will have an A (he curves a whole lot at the end). He is not very clear when he teaches.

This is a very challenging class, I worked my butt off and received an 82 average, and an A with the curve. Summers' is one of the most unorganized professors I've ever had, but it is possible to get a good grade.

Genetics is a hard class. Only for bio majors. I thought Dr. Summers could have been a bit more clear and a bit easier, but overall it was okay. Only take him if you know what you're doing.

this class is so incredibly hard. this guy can't teach and talks like kermit the frog. talks to students like they already have a phd in genetics. tests are impossible, but he does curve like crazy at the end. failed every test and still made a B.
