Comment:
The structure of class was super confusing, and although it was a 3rd year Japanese class, class was conducted in English! If you want to actually learn Japanese, she is not the teacher to take. Students were always confused as to what the homework assignments were or the topics for tests. It was a hard class for the wrong reasons. Don't recommend.

Comment:
There is so little potential to grow your Japanese in this class. Also, for an advanced Japanese class she spoke English more than half of the time. This class was not challenging and her unenthusiastic teaching has a tremendous impact on the low level of enthusiasm students showed for learning Japanese.

While her quizzes and tests are extremely difficult, Kurita is a great Japanese teacher and really wants her students to succeed. She has high expectations, but is pretty lax about deadlines, which is nice. Also, if you're having a hard time in class (translating for eg) she'll help you along.

Did not find her very helpful or inspiring. I thought that the material was interesting but difficult. I felt that she had difficulties comprehending and addressing my questions. She can sound quite condescending at times and she definitely plays favorites.

Comment:
Professor Kurita is very sweet and knowledgable, but that knowledge doesn't always transfer to her students in her lectures. She's very quiet and discussions aren't always riveting, but she is very helpful one-on-one. If you take her class, be prepared for boring lectures, but make use of her office hours!

This was such a difficult course. I worked my butt off, but still couldn't understand half of what she said in class. Despite all the work, I somehow didn't learn much from her. Don't take her course unless you have to for your major.
