As long as you pay attention in class, it's not a difficult class to pass. She tries to get everyone to understand, but if you don't, just go to her office and she'll help clarify whatever it is you're having trouble with. Very down to earth.

Sagawa-sensei is an excellent teacher, far superior to the professors of Japanese in this department. Her explanations are clear, and if you ask for help, you'll get it.

She is a very difficult teacher, but inspired me to do better and try harder. Unlike her opposite Hain Sensei, she is not a complete (fill in the blank). She is a good teacher as long as you put in the effort. Once my phone rang in class and she yelled at me, it was pretty funny. Anyway stay far away from JPN if you're a business student.

If your major doesn't require you to have a high GPA, take Sagawa-sensee. But if you're a science major trying to get into pre-health, be warned! I would say that 80% of students receive a B or lower in here, 10% get B+, and the other 10% get A-. Requires tons of work, but GREAT teacher for sure! She teaches JPN really well.

Incredible teacher! Everybody gets called on to participate ~2x per day. Bio major, took JPN to get away from boring biology. Hard to get an A, but A- is VERY do-able imo. Class requires lots of work to take home everyday. Class took more work than BIOL 161A (Anatomy class that all BIOL majors are scared of). Gorgeous prof too!

Sagawa Sensei is amazing as a teacher. I have taken classes with all three of the teachers, and by far Sagawa Sensei is the best. She's funny and clear, and spends a day or more on each section of the book, depending on it's difficulty. She grades a little bit harder than the rest, but it's easy because she teaches better. She is very attractive !

Very helpful and very thorough. She does call on you often to make sure you know the material and the daily homework and occasional quizzes really does help you better learn the language.

At first she was really intimidating and it seemed like the class would be hard, but it was actually fairly easy. If you do the homework and attend class you'll do fine in the class.

Sagawa-sensei is very terse with her students but still very helpful. she can be a little intimidating but it's only because she expects a lot out of her students. all in all, she is a great teacher and her english is very clear. she is stricter than sato-sensei but i think you learn the concepts better in her class. =)

She is nice and speaks very clear English. She is a little on the hard side, but she is extremely helpful. Pay attention because you will get called on everyday. She can be quite difficult because she expects more of you (even more if you are taking an upper level class with her). Just study all the terms and review the concepts.

Expects a lot from students. It helps to read the material and get familiar with the vocab before attending lectures. Be prepared to speak in class (read and answer questions in japanese). She's a fair grader, so work hard and you'll get your A.

Has a bad reputation for being difficult, but she makes sure you understand everything whereas Hain-sensei is big on self-reliance (not saying it's bad though). Sagawa-sensei is also fiercely funny and intelligent and it's easy to grow a rapport with her. I recommend her out of all the Japanese senseis, though I've never taken Sato.

Sagawa gets a bad rep for being overly strict but I think that's all baloney. I'd say her class is just right for college students. Not only does she have a great sense of humor, but she's terrific during office hours. Basically you get what you put into the class and as long as you keep up with your work, you'll be fine. Highly recommended. ^^

Sagawa sensei is a good professor, but I think that her rules get in the way of learning, and if you fall behind, it will be very hard to catch up. I think she is more sutable for advanced students, I learned much more in Sato's course. Exams range from easy to bloody difficult, so be warned. Does not curve or use a modified scale.

She definitely knows what she's doing. You can tell she's experienced. She isn't an easy grader, either. If you want to ace her class, you'll have to work hard to avoid making stupid mistakes on your tests. She's stern in class and wonderful during office hours.

Sato was MUCH easier but Sagawa teaches MUCH more effectively. I got a B- but I feel like a learned a great deal of Japanese this quarter. If you want an A... take Sato or Hain. But you will probably learn the most in Sagawa's class.

Sagawa sensei is very nice & teaches in a manner I can understand. She writes things on the board and is very clear. Like most language classes there is daily hw assignments, but good feedback is provided. She gives exam reviews for tests but the FINAL killed me - dropped my grade from an A to a C!

Sagawa sensei is strict, but not without reason. Drills until you understand. Very clear about the schedule, everyday we discussed the current of upcoming week/test/hw. Must be on time or you could miss a 3 minute quiz (learned the hard way).
