I wish I had read what everyone else had said before taking him. There are a few comments that are almost exactly what I feel. He is a lousy grader of essays and has favorites. I got half points on one essay that was a duplicate of one of his favorites who received full credit. He's a crack-pot, he actually said planes fly at 4-5km altitude."

please don't take this guy. I had him for lab and he acts like his lab is the only thing in the world his students need to focus on. The eco lab counts as one credit hour but you will feel like you earned 6

The master of Random Thoughts himself makes learning anything in ecology pretty much impossible. If you want to do well, you have practically direct quotes from lecture on tests. Tests are essay style with aprox 18 multiple choice. Not recommended. Period.

Dr. Barden, is extremely intelligent and answers every question with a lengthy reply. Sit in the front and read the book and you should be fine. Also practice writing essays about the material before you take the tests. He is a great professor and I loved his class! I plan on taking Conservation biology with him next!

Dr. B. is the most idiosyncratic professor I've ever had. I have a great GPA and am a great student. He does most certainly pick favorites and everyone else and I do mean everyone else will do poorly. I've never rated a professor before in my life and I logged onto this site just to rate him. He is a horrible professor and a narcissistic elitist.

okay do not take him! hes a TOUGH grader on essays. I was an A student, thought I wrote papers pretty well..until this guy! he makes me feel horrible, and stupid. and its a stupid LBST class, yet he doesn't care! class is mandatory, just do your self a favor, and DO not take him unless you can write papers realllllly well & is a biology genius!!!

He is not tough...the material is in depth. To the person below this comment who was bummed about not learning about birds and fun stuff...take him for Conservation. There are no surprises on exams. He gives you the practice exams and lots of EC. But if you don't go to class then yes you deserve to have a hard time.

well, he's fair atleast.HARD as anything though. you'd think eco would be an easier bio..but he HAS to make it challenging, which is utterly annoying. you cant learn about birds, or fun things.. you have to learn about dirt, and clay..its rediculous. tests were the downfall of my life, i knew the material inside and out, but the tests are so tricky

Dr Barden is tough! He doesn't deserve all of the negative comments he's recieved though! He does grade extremely tough on his essays BUT....if you get your work in early he will critique it and allow you to make changes. If you show that you are trying he is more than willing to work with you to help you make a better grade! He's super smart!

He picks his favorites & they are the ones who get the A's no matter what. All his tests are essay & he's worse than an ENG prof with grammar. For Cons Bio I missed 2 classes and went into the final with an A and still got a B. It doesn't matter how hard you try if he doesn't like you. He is the worst & most unfair prof I've ever had.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE BELOW ME!!! They want to be spoonfed their grades. Professor Barden is a hard teacher, but you'll come out a better student after you get out of his class. He's concise and very generous towards his students. He knows the line between making his class a challenge and just plain ridiculously hard.

Very nice teacher. Just memorize the stories he tell in class and you'll be fine (But test is a little confusing on what he expects, just write down EVERYTHING you know). He gives lots of extra credits towards the tests. Overall, I enjoyed having Dr. B.

If you think you need this as a bio minor you DONT so dont take it. He is one of the worst professors ever. He makes you feel stupid and worthless. He tried to kick me out 6 weeks into the class b/c i didn't have plant and animal bio. I told him i needed it to graduate and he said i would fail.
