Comment:
I really wish I had discovered Lahoucine sooner because I would have enrolled in all of his classes. He is an excellent prof who truly cares about the success of his students. The material is engaging and easy to keep up with and you will get ALOT out of a course with Lahoucine. He puts just as much effort into the class as the students do. 11/10!

Lahoucine is one of the most caring and genuine individuals at the UofA. He gives plenty of feedback on assignments and always makes himself available for questions/help. Class lectures are informal and discussion-based, papers are straightforward. Homework assignments can be a little chaotic, but not a deal-breaker. Take this class!

I took his class in my third year, and being in my fourth year now, I still let him read my writing and meet with him to get feedback. Ouzgane is my favourite prof at this university, and if I could take this class every year I would. Go to class and participate in the discussions. This is a great A class but be prepared to put a little effort in!

Definitely recommend! You can tell he has a passion for writing, and he gives excellent feedback on all assignments. 5 essays due throughout the two semesters. He pushed everyone to improve their writing, and I feel like I was able to take away some valuable writing tips. I was pleasantly surprised with this course!

I specifically took the second class with him because he is so fantastic. He is great at leading group discussion, a fair marker and a truly nice fellow. The only complaint I would have is not that let one student dominate class discussion all the time even though that student was not an undergrad. He was a grad student taking an undergrad course.

One of the best profs I have had throughout my time at the U of A. I also took a writing class with him. He is extremely understanding and willing to help. I would recommend taking any of his classes.

Stellar at describing concepts, clear and almost jovial lecture style, and frank when discussing problems with essays/student work. Needs to work on letting his students know where they stand grade-wise, but overall a great professor.

Great prof! Class was not stressful and assignment were simple. He uses a contract method of assigning grades which basically means he will grade you on how much he likes you. As long as you follow his classroom expectations, you will not receive a grade lower than B-. Good course to take if English is not your strength.

Prof. Ouzgane ran an incredibly disorganised class which produced the largest workload of any of my six. I'm in my fourth year of Engineering Physics and ENGL 199 gave me more work to do than any of my 400 level technical classes. If you like English then go for it, but that's not the point of ENGL 199.

Some profs get all good reviews, some all bad, and controversial ones get both. Ouzgane is just mediocre, and it shows here. The texts he picked, while interesting, were poisoned by his inability to teach them well, or by his infuriating insistance to make them always about sexual deviance. He was boring, irrelevant, and unorganized and it showed.

Nice guy, but this class was confusing. Total lack of structure. Tests were not on material covered in class. I still don't know what I was supposed to be learning. However, I did get a good mark, so I guess I shouldn't complain. If you need this class try someone else, but if you're stuck I wouldn't worry too much about it.
