She is wonderful. The lectures are clearly organized and she is very straightforward about what to expect from the exams. She also provides extra credit opportunities which make it easy to get a good grade. In 340 I enjoyed the guest lecturers she chose. In 300 I found the projects fun and not at all time consuming. Comment:

This is the second A+ I have received in a course with Dr. Brooks (the other being 340). She is a special professor who wishes her students nothing but to succeed and I encourage anyone who needs to take 300 and 340 to take her. Not only is the class easy, but she is head of the CCJS department and can be a very valuable connection in the future.

Dr. Brooks is an amazing lecturer and she organizes the material in a very understandable, easy-to-study manner. A quarter of every exam is strictly from the textbook and she offers many opportunities for extra credit... you must come to class!

Dr. Brooks is amazing! She's hilarious, keeps the class interesting, and finds really cool guest lecturers to bring in. Quizzes at the end of every class but they're open notes and super easy. You will need to read the textbook to do well on exams, but she gives a thorough reading guide to help. Easiest class I've ever taken, wish she taught more

Comment:

Hands down the best CCJS professor Ive had thus far. The textbook might have been a bore, but there are open note quizzes at the end of class that are VERY easy (2 questions). She also gives 5% extra credit if you ace them all. Guest lectures were highly fascinating and informative as well; would recommend for any CCJS major.

A good professor who genuinely loves what she does and wants her students to pass. Go to every lecture because she gives daily quizzes but they are open notes. I recommend doing the extra credit police ride-along. Exams are equally based on lecture, guest speakers, and the book so study and you will be fine. Pretty interesting and easy class.

Professor Brooks is the best professor I've had at UMD! I highly recommend her. She truly cares about her students. If you study for exams there is no reason you won't pass. Attendance is important because she gives open note quizzes at the end of lecture.

Ive had Dr. Brooks twice and she is one of the best. She really loves to teach and it is obvious in her teaching style. She even outlines the notes for you and gives open note quizzes at the end of each class (340) & pop quizzes for 300. Shes really caring and her guest lecturers for 340 were all amazing! Definitely recommend taking her courses

Comment:

Dr. Brooks is a gem! She makes her grading expectations clear and lets you know exactly what's gonna be on the tests. She's also very caring and approachable for any questions/concerns. I don't recommend skipping because she gives open-notes quizzes after every lecture and offers extra credit. I would definitely take her again if I could!

Dr. Brooks is great, I have had her twice now and she is one of the better professors I've had the pleasure of having. Extremely clear with what she wants and how she grades, and by far the fastest grader on campus -- grades go up instantly. You have an open note quiz after every lecture, 3 exams, and extra credit opportunities. Good lecturer

Easy to follow lecture format and always a 1 point quiz after every lecture (5 are extra credit). There are occasional guest lecturers which are cool. Exams are straightforward if you study and read the textbook. She tells a lot of interesting stories to go with the lecture and grades within the same day. Also had her for CCJS300 and she's amazing!

Quiz on every lecture day based on the lecture. Each quiz is worth 1 point but added up throughout the semester it's 30 points. Blocks the Canvas/ELMS messaging between students so either you MUST show up or make friends to get notes! Very interesting guest lecturers! She makes sure you know what's expected of you. Dr. Brooks is amazing! She genuinely cares for her students & does an excellent job at her lectures as well. She's def clear on her grading and will tell you exactly what will be on exams. Although attendance isn't mandatory, it is strongly recommended because she gives a small open notes quiz at the end of each class, which gives you easy points.

Dr. Brooks is one of my favorite professors. Very easy lectures for notes and Test are straight forward if you Pay attention. You need to read the book for exams. Lots of Assignments to balance grade. If you ever need help, the door is always wide open! And she's the director or Criminal Justice Department, so use her as a benefit for your career!

One of my favorite teachers at UMD, she's amazing. Her teaching should be a blueprint. Her tests contains no tricks. She tells you exactly what sections to read in the book. Her lectures are great as well. I recommend taking her for CCJS300 as well.

Prof. Brooks is amazing, very helpful and the way she teaches makes it easier to understand the info and study. Grades exams in less than 24 hrs. Friendly and approachable. She gives more than enough time to complete assignments.

Professor Brooks is the best! I took Policing and Research Methods with her this past year. She is crystal clear about what she expects on assignments- follow her directions and you'll be good. Tests are exactly from lecture and assigned book readings. Shes always willing to help, so nice. Grades extremely quickly.

What I enjoyed the most about Dr. Brooks was her positive attitude, enthusiasm, and her willingness to always help, especially when it came to assignments and tests.
