I thought I would like anthropology, and I still do! But good lord I would rather tear my eyes out than take her class again. She does NOT believe in helping out her students in any capacity; just a warning.

Laurie is very knowledgeable and has passion for what she does. The course is an intro course, therefore requires a lot of reading. Her syllabus is clear. She will call you out if you dont participate in class discussions, if you are constantly tardy, and if you are clearly disinterested. Ive learned a lot and enjoyed her in- class activities.

OMG. Laurie is brilliant. She is so interesting to listen to and it's amazing the examples she can come up with off the top of her head. Her intro to anthropology course is very interesting and I love how she does easy pop quizzes, reading questions and fun in class assignments. It's a very easy class if you put the work in, AND NO FINAL.

Very dry, old school style of teaching. Doesn't care about anyone's opinion but her own. Doesn't differ from the textbook but you have to go to class due to pop quizzes, barely have to pay attention in class though. Seems like an easy option class but its a ton of work and you learn almost nothing.

Her class is dry and unimportant to attend, but she has quizzes that force you to attend. You will learn nothing in her class, but you have a lot of work, so...? She is also unclear about what she wants for her papers, and refuses to re-evaluate marks when she marks an MC Question wrong when everyone else got it right with the same answer.

Look it's an easy enough class to pass, but her lectures are dry and boring. I feel like I haven't learnt anything about anthropology. And if you ask her to clarify what she means on an assignment she will not directly answer you and leave you to try and figure it out the best you can.

If you are capable of reading a textbook and possibly additional assigned articles, attending Laurie's class is a waste of time. Discussion and lecture never stray far from the textbook material but warning- she takes a lack of class attendance VERY personally. Don't waste your time with these classes.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I took this course, but she made it really interesting, as well as expected a high standard from you in your work which was actually a good thing, because you ended up wanting to do well for her :)

She communicates what she thinks and her trains of thought well in class, and encourages and directs class discussion well too. I enjoyed her teaching, but still understand why some may not. She only assigned some homework assignments, with no tests really, which was nice too.

She was waaay too batty for me. She seems like she smokes too much pot haha. I really didn't like her essays though, she should put ACTUAL deadlines on them, vs "you do 8 throughout the semester"...because if you keep putting them off (since they're not mandatory per week), guess what, you run out of weeks.

I had her for introductory anthropology. She wasn't interested in helping you gain an understanding of it, just in teaching those who already loved it. She'd be good if you know what to say and if you know you love anthro but if you're just getting a feel for it, she'll kill it for you. The papers weren't too difficult though.

I've taken 4 courses with her. She is the best prof I ever had. No midterms or finals. Lotsa papers though and class discussions. Great class for thinkers, elaborators and people who want to break free from traditional classroom teaching methods.

interesting intro Anthropology class. I liked when she brought in different skulls and the class on archeology. I liked how she had deadlines for the papers,which kept you on your toes and of course no midterms or finals.
