I took Dr. Flake's ONLINE (independent study) mission prep class and LOVED IT! It was the easiest class I have ever taken, hands down. I finished the 10 speedback assignments in 4 days and took his 166 question final in 1 hour and got 97%. If you want an uplifting, fun class that takes minimal time for easy credits, take his online class!

Dr. Flake is a great guy to take D and C from. Very knowledgeable about the subject and will make it come alive. If you don't do the readings, his tests can be hard. He does ask a lot of weird questions on the tests, but he gives 25% of the class an A and 25% and A-.

Bro. Flakes class made me super concerned about the average level of intelligence of BYU students. His tests were "super hard" but he graded on such a crazy curve that it didn't matter. I never studied for his tests, but instead just paid attention to his spiritual, fascinating lectures and I got an easy "A." He is a man that simply loves teaching.

This course was a waste of my time. Brother Flake changed the course material - it was no longer a Teachings of the Living Prophets class, but a church history/Prophet Biography class. I was very disappointed. The tests are absolutely ridiculous - I didn't really feel there was any way to prepare. They were on random facts. Do not take this class.

Do not take Living Prophets from him! My husband took it from a different teacher last year and the class seemed way fun and interesting, not from Flake. It's not about living prophets, it's about deceased prophets. The worst part is the tests, they are impossible! Especially without any study guide, he says he expects EVERYONE to get below 80%!

I have a ton of complaints. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I studied for an additional hour for this test, and did worse by 10% than the last one. He doesn't tell you what to study, we did not receive a study sheet. He puts WAY too much of his own opinion down as doctrine, and many of his test q's can be answered, multiple ways according to lectures.

Do NOT take this class if you're not an RM. He grades on a curve and his tests are hard. His questions are biased and he picks obscure material from the book to test on. I studied my brains out for a test and I only got a 68, plus I'm still probably going to have a horrible grade by the time the curve goes into effect. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Here is the recipe to get an A: do not miss any classes + do the reading assignments + study the review sheets for test and final. Actually you do not have to wake up the whole class. I usually fall asleep after finishing the quiz at the first 5 min of class. However, you still have to be there until the class ends or you lose attendance points.

Brother Flake is awesome. He is really helpful and such a nice person. You just have to be responsible and do your homework everyday. It doesn`t take long to read the chapts. The exam is not hard, he gives you a review sheet which is super helpful. He also is very caring. I would suggest him to all non-members. He is super-helpful

Bro. Flake is definitely one of the nicest professors on campus. He takes the entire class to his ranch for a party, which is really cool. The class is really fun, a lot of diversity and college athletes. You have to do regular readings and attendance is mandatory.

Dr.Flake is awesome! He really cares about his students, also he has some wonderful stories from his experiences as both a prof and a mission pres. If you are non-LDS at BYU, take his class and you'll be fully prepared for any other religion classes at byu!!

What an easy class. For the first half or more of class, he just opened the class up to questions. You do have to take a daily reading quiz, but you only have to read 1, sometimes 2 chapters of a small book (not a real textbook). This guy is really nice and does what he can to help. He's going to retire soon as doesnt mind giving tons of A's.

He is a rambler. His test are debatable and rather pointless. I was in the LDS mission prep and some of his questions were as follows: How many years did it take for the total church population to reach one million, and how many years does it take to get each additional million? he is obsessed with obscure stats of the church. Frustrating always.

Wouldn't recommend. Caught him teaching false doctrine more than once. all the test questions are based on "what we talked about in class" which means his opinion on the gospel not actual doctrine. If you decided to take him take what he says with a grain of salt.
