Grade was entirely determined by three exams, so studying is very important. Test is solely on material covered in class and info can be hard to find without attendance, so showing up is mandatory. Passionate teacher who is very interested in the subject, so lecture is interesting and has many fun, relevant stories. Very willing to help students

He was a very intelligent teacher and interesting to listen to. You can tell that he has a wealth of knowledge. My only issue was that it was hard to study without him having power points and only giving a very broad study guide. His questions definitely focused on the molecular side of things, so focus on that.

I think that Dr. Ryan is a really great person, but his teaching style really didn't work for me. His lectures were very unstructured and it was never clear to me how we got to certain topics. I never could develop a good system for taking notes in his class, which was really unfortunate.

Dr. Ryan is one of the best profs I have had at OSU. I joined the class during the second week and did great, but I am a science major and feel like I have a lot of prior knowledge. The class and material were very interesting. Dr. Ryan's dry humor was great in class. I will definitely take everything else that he teaches.

You HAVE to go to class to succeed. He's a smart man but doesn't give you a lot of help to be successful in the class. He doesn't utilize blackboard at all so all notes are taken in class. He talks the entire lecture and will randomly write a word on the board, besides that you have to listen the whole time and write really fast to take good notes.

Formula for getting an A in Dr. Ryan's psy 201 class: take notes in lecture (and re-read them!) + read the chapters in the textbook. If you do both of those, you will be totally fine. It's an intro course, so its not too intense. Your grade is 5 mult. choice tests, that's it. He adds about 10 points to each test & offers an extra credit assignment.

Ryan is extremely knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches. My focus is not neuroscience, but he lectures in simple enough language without dumbing it down too much. I wanted to come to class to learn more. The textbook by Kalat was well written and flows very well with his lectures. I wish more professors would use Ryan's teaching style.

I was excited to take psychopharmacology and Dr. Ryan definitely met my expectations, if not exceeded them. I LOVED his style of teaching... none of that powerpoint bullet crap that other professors use. His lectures were very engaging, notes were easy to take. The tests were challenging, but it didn't take too much studying to get an A.

Psychopharmacology- didn't know what it was before class, but ended up being so interesting! NO homework assignments, NO papers, & only 3 tests which are hard but he curves a LOT (10-14% each exam) cuz he knows they are tough and wants you to pass. Nice to have curve and class with only tests. Great professor, highly recommend!!
