I'm an old/former student, graduated with a BA in 1986. Simms was demanding, rigorous, and inspiring: I was scared stiff 90% of the time, but learned more than I can say. I've since become a successful scholar/professor myself, working on Latin manuscript texts: a lot of that success is due to him. Grazie mille, Laurentius! Lei e molto gentile.

Very demanding, and tends to get fussy with his students, but as long as you are respectful to him and his class, you shouldn't have a problem. Do study the material, because he know's when you are unprepared and will definately call you on it. He is a nice man, and I would highly recommend his class, just stay on his good side!

The class is not hard as long as you do and keep up with the work; the tests come straight from the homework. He's not a bad guy but he has an interesting since of humor and likes to single people out on a daily basis. Do the homework and don't be late to class and you should do fine. It's definately an experience.

If you are serious about Latin and not easily offended, he's great. Very dark sense of humor, an acquired taste. Lots of homework. Don't dare show up late or without your HW. You would be extrememly lucky to take this professor. He is a serious professor awaiting serious students. If you do not plan to work, don't take the class. His sense of humor is a required taste, but one that is the same for all students - he singles everyone out - don't get offended!

Think Agent Smith from the Matrix, except more anal retentive. Hard class, zero information retention, and lots of oral participation, and you better give him lots of it to get a good grade. Fun class if you have a sense of humor.

With out a doubt the weirdest guy I have ever met. He is rude and insulting. He once locked me out of the classroom because I went to the bathroom. I wouldn't take this guy. But, if you do the H.W.,you'll be fine. But this is not an exiting class to take.

well i had to drop the class but it's because he saved my ass by pointing out that i had a learning disability in language. If he had not been so helpful and understanding i would have lost my scholarship and my sanity. very dry homor and cool office.
