Amazing teacher, absolutely loved the class. But you have to really like the subject cuz there is a ton of reading. I worked my butt off and it was the only class I didn't get an A in. :-(. But I am really glad I took it. Very unbiased teaching which is good for a southern baptist like me in a class on Judaism!

Hardest professor ever, but so worthwhile. I worked hard, studied like crazy, but I remember EVERYTHING!!!! I can practically teach the class. It's very do-able, but set aside time for it. Must read. Don't be lazy, invest the time, it's amazing how much I got out of the class. Follow instructions on the papers!!!!!!

awesome teacher- best one i've had at UF so far. i'm minoring in jewish studies because of her. you have to respect her opinion on everything, and be sure not to use the passive voice in your writing. she gets weird about that. but definitely take her class!

Leah Hochman is both a fantastic and fantastically difficult teacher. She has a sarcastic, acerbic wit which definitely livens up class--when it doesn't scare all her students into silence. At the same time, she is extremely intelligent and provides great insight into the material. Be prepared for terrific class debates and really hard papers.

I have taken Hochman twice now at the upper division level, and she definitely challenges her students in terms of reading assigned and in her approach to written work. But, she is also really cool, has an engaging teaching style, and you will learn a lot
