He is very enthusiastic, however, he really misses the mark on the teaching perspective. If you aren't good at teaching yourself, you better hope you get along with one of the TFs...

There's no way around it: PY 212 is a hard class. Prof. Roberts is an enthusiastic lecturer but his lectures are often confusing. Make sure to do the prelecture! And don't worry about copying down everything he says. The important stuff is covered two or three times.

Not the best lecturer for this class in the bunch offered, but still a solid choice. He's excited about class, always seems to have fun while teaching, and is very helpful outside of the classroom. Exams are hard (it is physics, to be fair) so tip: study from multiple lecturer's notes (since they all write the exams together).

PY211 is the most disorganized class I've ever taken. If you haven't taken some type of advanced physics class in high school, I genuinely feel sorry for you. The way it's taught makes learning what is a fairly interesting subject seem burdensome. You should only be taking this class if it's a requirement.

Don't expect to pass the test or quizzes just by going to lecture, you won't learn anything in lecture. He expects you to have taken physics in high school and does not go over examples in class which hurts when preparing for the tests. Just sign up for a different professor.

Robert's lectures really do not prepare you for anything, be it tests, quizzes, homework, or labs. He really only teaches the basic and fundamental concepts and does very little to help students with problem solving. Those skills are basically expected from you beforehand. The bottom line is: if you aren't an engineer, then AVOID this class.

The most boring lecture ever at Boston University. He probably knows physics but bad at teaching. He emphasizes too much concepts but no good examples. Impossible to solve problems afterwards.

Roberts is a cool guy that really but his lectures can be very boring. the good thing about py212 is that you can actually go to any lecture so it does not matter where you register

Prof. Roberts knows his stuff. He gets to know everybody in this small class so while attendance is not mandatory you might still want to go. Interesting class but concepts can be hard to pick up. The first half of the class is the most important - at least know those stuff. If you don't understand anything - just ask and he's VERY helpful 1-on-1.

Comment:
Prof. lectures in an unclear manner which makes material much harder. He often makes huge errors during lecture which he'll later point out was a mistake. The other professor (Jariwala) was a guest lecturer during Prof. Roberts' absence, and the difference in clarity and quality in the slides and presentation was great. Avoid Roberts class.

Roberts makes physics 2 absolutely miserable. It's almost as though he gets joy out of it, too. Avoid at all costs. If for whatever reason you get stuck registering for him, just go to another physics lecture instead, all the classes take the same tests.

Pretty tought class if you're not very strong in physics or music theory, but he's enthusiastic about the subject and he'll try to help you if you're lost. Not the clearest teacher, so you'll end up getting more confused. homework problems are pretty useless. learn the concepts and the application! memorize the harmonic series, it will be your life

Poor lecturer. Powerpoints are confusing and not effective. Hard to follow and to pay attention. Asks for feedback, but ignores comments on said powerpoints. Out of touch w/ students. HW and labs were good, but they were handled by Ludwig, who's much better. Tests were hard to finish, but after the 1st you know what's coming. Good curve at the end.

I think roberts makes this class a lot harder than it should be, but it definitely isn't impossible to do well. read the book and take notes on the important points (preferably before lecture), and thoroughly go over solutions to the homework and quizzes when they are posted. know the equations that are in the book but not on the formula sheet.

rediculous powerpoint lectures do nothing to help you understand the material. simplay copies equations from the book and pastes them in his lecture slides, then spends lectures pointing at equations and simply reading them to you. does not do any applications; is very unresponsive to student feedback does not belong in a lower level physics class.

tough class, if you are not used to power point lectures... (although py 211 is the same) he pushes really hard, and only few students can follow that.

Im doing well in his class, but hating every minute of it. lectures consist of slides of endless equations that he points at. He always yells at the class and tells us to work harder, and how he is changing our lives. Guess what? You aren't. We hate you and now physics as well. If you are self motivated you can skip lecture and teach yourself fine.

Class was very interesting. It got a bit confusing at times, but he always took time in discussion section to answer all questions and make sure everyone was pretty much on the same page. The previous tests and lecture slides (posted online) were a huge help in studying for tests! He'll go out of his way to make sure you know what you're doing.

The average on the midterm was a 40. The lectures are infuriatingly confusing most of the time. He is a nice person, but seems really out of touch - he has no idea how is the class doing and whether people understand the material. Practice tests were not at all representative of the actual midterm
