Comment:
Dr. Schweninger is very passionate about the texts discussed, and he clearly portrays that in his lecture. While the reading can be monotonous sometimes he did a great job of going over it in class. His classes were set up to allow each student to 'lead' the discussion at one point in the semester, allowing students to fully engage & learn.

Schweninger taught me a lot about English I had gone through high school not understanding at all. Maybe it was just the class but when he explains things he goes into detail about simple things that are important for people to understand things that other teachers miss. Hes definitely not for everyone but for me hes awesome.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so funny... SO FUNNY with his side stories and offers amazing insight into literature. He is very passionate about what he does and it is definitely reflected in his teaching. He doesn't lecture often, but make sure to read ALWAYS and participate in class discussion.

Dr. Schweninger is a great person, but not a good professor. He jumps around a lot so lectures are hard to follow. His rubrics and grading are very vague and it's hard to do well on assignments because of this. He expects a lot from the reading and reading responses. Grades are not posted anywhere and you never really know where you stand .

Very eccentric. He will know if you did the reading or not and he remembers what days you skipped. He tells a lot of stories that don't relate to the lecture. On my classes midterm he didn't give anyone above an 80%, but he gave people opportunities to make up points. Take him if you can deal with the reading.

Really like Schweninger. He is easy to joke around with but not too much that you aren't learning. Each class was enjoyable as the discussions were always new.

His essay prompts are way too vague and he grades them way too harshly for such prompts. His lectures are about as useless as you can get because he is constantly going off on tangents. The readings assigned nightly are accompanied by a two page respose, EVERY NIGHT, and you rarely even discuss the readings in class. Nice guy, very poor teacher

It was a pleasure taking a class with Mr. Schweninger! He is innovative in his methods of teaching, & he requires a lot of independent thinking. At first I was intimidated, but I learnt that all I had to do was try to engage myself and think on a deeper level. I felt that he had a genuine passion for his work, and he truly cared about his students.

He knows his stuff & he seems genuinely nice, but he simply can NOT teach! Lectures are off the wall, essays are graded far too harshly for such broad prompts, & the class discussions are dreadful. If there was one teacher at UNCW I would NEVER advise any student to study under, it would be him. Unfortunately, his class has faded my passion for Eng.

The most eccentric man I've ever met, but it's not a bad thing. He's a pretty cool guy but sometimes frustrating as a professor. Make sure you read (closely) and do reading responses. It often hard to tell what he wanted on papers & I typically got B's on them, but somehow managed a solid A in the class. He's a cool guy & you definitely learn a lot

Easily distracted and gives way too much work to keep up with every night. You're expected to read for every class because of his surprise quizzes. His grades the mid-terms and final papers very harshly despite the fact that they make up most of the grade. And the topics he gives for each are not nearly enough to write a decent 3 page paper on....

He is a great teacher. The class is easy as long as you do the readings. The quizzes are off the top of his head but based on the reading. Keep up in the reading responses if you get behind its a pain to catch up. Lectures are fun and topsyturvy and can be difficult to grasp but just be ready to have a challenge. You will learn in this class.

Professor makes it clear at the beginning of his class that he is NOT Native American and if you are, he doesn't believe you. In fact if you mention you are Native American it might get you a worse grade. He does play favorites! His quizzes are never written down, just off the top of his head, so if you need a repeat you are screwed.

This class was extremely quiz heavy. They were all pop quizzes, and they count for 30% of the grade. If you are not a good test taker, you may not want to take this class. He is hilarious, though, and will make it bearable.

Favorite professor so far in college! Schweninger was a ton of fun, he always kept me interested. The text for the class in a compilation of essays and was only around $7. Homework was graded basically on effort, and the four papers weren't bad at all. Definitely recommend!

Love this guy! He's hilarious and brings insight to a lot of the poetry that most people don't understand. This class is really fun, just make sure you read and do well on the quizzes. And the quizzes are really easy anyway.

Amazing Prof. He has a quirky personality which makes each class fun and interesting. For a lit class there was minimal work to do..just daily readings and journals and a midterm/final. He makes the material easy to understand and makes you want to learn.
